Paul Williams Regrets Floyd Mayweather 'Vagina' Comment

On Nov. 20, welterweight (147 pounds), junior middleweight (154 pounds) and middleweight (160 pounds) contender, Paul Williams, (above, at right) will rematch WBC middleweight king Sergio Martinez (above, at left) in an HBO televised bout from the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

Atlantic City was the site of Williams-Martinez I, a clash of southpaws during which both fighters were dropped in the first round, ending with Williams earning a disputed decision.

Since their last fight, the 35-year-old Martinez dethroned WBC and WBO king Kelly Pavlik in April, his 12-round unanimous decision raising his mark to 45-2-2, with 24 knockouts. Martinez has since been stripped of the WBO middleweight crown, as well as the WBC junior middleweight title.

Williams (39-1, 27 KOs), a former world champion, meanwhile, is coming off of May's disappointing, four-round junior middleweight technical decision victory over former two-time world champion Kermit Cintron. Williams is promoted by Dan Goossen, and Martinez, by Lou DiBella.

In this FanHouse Q&A, Williams spoke about his upcoming fight with Martinez, addressed a colorful comment he made about Floyd Mayweather and his recent domestic violence and legal troubles, and shed light on what a win over Martinez might mean to his future, among other things.

FanHouse: We spoke to Sergio Martinez over the phone literally while he was still sitting at ringside after watching your fight with Kermit Cintron, and he was telling us, then, and still contends that you did not look like the same fighter that fought him. What is your response to what appears to be Martinez's assertion that you may have lost something as a result of facing him?

Paul Williams: When I fight everybody, I don't look the same agianst anybody. If you look at all of my fights, I'm always different.

Is there any frustration on your part that Sergio Martinez has gone on to win a title against a guy in Kelly Pavlik, whom you wanted to fight, but who twice pulled out of bouts in which he was scheduled to face you?

No, there's no frustration. The title is just something that I have to take from him now. You know, I've already beaten him once, so, it will be easier beating him again, now.

Do you expect this fight to be a replay of the last fight, or do you expect to box him more, perhaps like you did in defeating Antonio Margarito?

Well, I really can't say now. But however it comes, you know, he's going to have to fight me, you know what I'm saying? Because I'm going to stay on him, you know, so he's going to have to fight.

You were quoted by Michael Marley of the Examiner.com as saying that Floyd Mayweather won't fight you because you do not have a vagina -- an obvious reference to Floyd Mayweather's domestic violence and legal troubles. Do you in any way regret saying that, and, if so, what did you initially mean by that statement?

Yeah, I kind of regret saying that, you know. It was the heat of the moment, and everybody was asking me stuff. No more comment on that. Just like everybody else, he's a professional, you know. His personal life is his personal life. But I would love to fight him.

So you wish the best for him, even in solving his problems in his personal life?

Of course, man, of course. Anything can happen to anybody in their personal life. You could get in trouble being with your friends or something. Something could come off, and, you know, there's no telling.

All of a sudden people could be pointing their finger at me or something. So, you know, it's different strokes for different folks.

If you could map out your next three or four fights, meaning the ones that you dream about -- your dream fights -- what names would you face, including and after Sergio Martinez?

Well, of course, there is Sergio. Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather.

PWill is apologizing to floyd with the hopes that IF he beats Sergio he will call out Floyd Mayweather next. I guarantee you after that fight Floyd comes back from vacation and fights the winner of Williams Martinez putting the cheato Manny matchup to more of a shame than it is already.

Manny then counters with the undefeated JCC Jr, and Floyd and Manny meet the end of 2011. Watch it happen kids.
