Comments Thread For: IBF President Explains Why Povetkin Was Dropped

The President of the International Boxing Federation (IBF), Daryl Peoples, spoke to Alexander Pavlov and explained the reasoning for Alexander Povetkin being dropped from the top-fifteen of the organization's heavyweight rankings. Povetkin was dropped after his handlers turned down an invitation to participate in the IBF's tournament to set a mandatory challenger to Wladimir Klitschko.

My respect to Mr. Peoples for cleaning up the sport of boxing . There's no place for fraud boxers like povetkin and fraud trainers like atlas in our sport .

Finally, a sanctioning body with some sense. If you haven't got the balls to take your mandatory shot for over two years and the $2.5 million that goes with it, don't just sit on that ranking, let someone else have a try.

Is there anyone who thinks Povetkin had/has a hope in hell of beating Wlad? Nobody, nada , zero. Is Atlas insane? No, he's brutally honest. The IBF is right for dropping him, but would likely reinstate him top five on request. So really it's a non-issue. A trainer is suppose to protect his fighter and a fight with wlad would destroy this kid. I just don't know if Sasha isn't as good as he'll ever be and shouldn't cash that check. Risky, but it's his call, time is on his side, for now.

              Get a grip guys.

The IBF are a collection of small-minded self-serving ******s that don't give a **** about boxing..... they are exactly the same as the other 3 turds.

So they did the right thing for once, because it suited them.....
              whip-de-****..... good for them.

They still dont religiously enforce mandatories, or recognise other champions, or do anything else to premier the sport..... unless it suits them.

I respect this decision by the IBF, I actually really like it...but the dignity of their belts mean nothing anyway. Many of their belts are held by bums.

                  This makes sense.

The IBF president made the right decision - if Povetkin/Atlas doesn't want to fight for a world title, then he shouldn't be in their rankings.

I understand the Haye thing where he wants to hype the fight then retire win or lose.

But what's Povetkin doing? He hasn't run his mouth much and Vitali is retiring at 40 soon.

Wlad's 34, Povetkin is 31, there's not exactly a big "waiting game" there like people sometimes mention. They're pretty much the same age.

He should have just gone for it. He was a really big HW name for a short span then just fizzled into obscurity. He's not hyping anything, waiting for anything, I don't know how Atlas is going to re-train him at age 31 either. Maybe somebody but not Atlas. I thought it was an interesting fight now it's just meh.
