Gamboa and Rigondeaux are two of my favorite active fighters right now among a few others...

Gamboa has unbelievable raw talents, athleticism, speed, unorthodox approach, and the willing to stand toe to toe and trade ferociously... Love Gamboa.

Rigondeaux has unbelievable skillset and intelligence, good speed, great pop, and his best asset to me is his timing. His counterpunching ability is on the elite level... Love Rigondeaux.

    Gamboa vs. Rigondeaux...

Would love this fight, anticipate this fight, count the days until I could watch it...

Being a fan of both of them equally.

    Rigondeaux by KO.

And that takes nothing away from Yuri, I just think someone with fast counterpunching ability and timing.. coupled with good stamina and pop will knock Gamboa out. I wouldn't see it happening in the middle of the ring during the boxing and feeling out stages, but when Gamboa decided to square up and trade.. I see Rigondeaux coming back with a perfectly timed left hand.

Not too mention, Rigondeaux can slip punches very well, his defense is almost that of a young southpaw version of James Toney, and with his timing.. if anyone can evade and slip Gamboas combinations effectively, it's Guillermo.

    Just my $.02.

i like this analysis...gamboa is a bit chinny. but that being said i don't think rigoneaux is busy enough...if he can't catch gamboa with something i see him being outworked while standing around posing. after the fight everyone will say dude was sharp when he threw...he just didn't do enough. i hope shields can get some aggression from this guy.

But, you have to understand something... The way Rigondeaux fights, he slows down your pace. Because you can't just go in there and be wreckless throwing punches, because you're going to pay for it.

If you know Gamboa well, you will know that when he does get aggressive, it's rarely before he knows that he can... he always starts off the fight being cautious with his hands up, and after a few rounds of feeling out Gamboa knows he can do whatever he wants.

I have significant doubts that Gamboa will ever reach the point in a fight with Guillermo to where he feels he can do whatever he wants.

Gamboa will not be as busy as you've seen him against his other competition.. it will be a much calmer more composed gamboa.

It better be, or it won't be good for him.

It's looks as though he didn't use to use the speed bag in Cuba....which a lot of guys don't now. He didn't have the coordination down at all though, unless he was just so tired he couldn't lift and use his arms anymore. Doubt it though.

Maybe Shields has got him doing something he's never done much of before as a new thing to learn?

rigondeaux's biggest weakness is that he goes into defensive spells. anyone can get clipped...we just haven't seen enough of him yet. if they fought at this stage i give gamboa a good shot...not so much as their careers move forward. i think rigondeaux is the more talented boxer.

But, Gambos greatest weakness is his chin, and his ability to expose it OFTEN... which is a far greater weakness than going into defensive spells.

Guillermo WILL hit him, he will get caught, and it will be often... Even if he doesn't knock him out.. Guillermo will be landing the clean shots, and Gamboa will be flurrying off the shoulders and top of the head on Guillermo when he does his slipping (for the most part).

I'm not saying Gamboa can't hit him clean, but their two styles gives one the bigger advantage.

I would have to closely, but clearly favor Rigondeaux..
