There was nothing competitive about this fight after Antonio was hit with the body shot early on. It was not the cut to the eye.
The mere fact that a guy nearly 20 pounds lighter and 5 inches shorter could do this to Margarito says something about Pacquiao that is undeniable. Say what you want about catchweights, there was nothing to point at here other than the smaller, faster guy was also much stronger with his punches.
It’s sort of like breaking bricks with your bare hands, Manny punches through his target for maximum impact. It’s rare, but effective.
He also landed almost 60% of his power punches, against a guy who threw over 700 punches. That is uncanny.
It doesn’t take a devout fan or boxing purist to see what happened tonight….
SPEED KILLED, and Margarito never had the chance to get out of the way of Pacquiao’s all-out assault. The swollen eye was a product of straight shots through the defense, simple as that.
Margarito was wobbled more than once, and we were all sort of looking to the ref in round ten along with Manny, wondering why the onslaught should continue. Mexican warrior or not, what is the point of doing permanent damage to a vulnerable fighter? Haven’t we learned from the fatalities in boxing’s past?
Anyhow, nothing competitive about this fight. Sorry to report, this was a virtual shutout!
