Comments Thread For: Roach Protecting Pacquiao From Bigger Sparring Partners?

MANILA—Renowned trainer Freddie Roach has made a slight change in sparring plans, keeping the likes of undefeated Vanes Martirosyan and hard-hitting Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin, from Manny Pacquiao, BoxingScene.com/Inquirer learned Friday.

So basically Roach is already starting to wind down his training camp sparring wise. Interesting wasn't he supposed to be turning it up?

What's funny is that the fact that PACQUIAO SPARS WITH BIGGER BOXERS ALONE ISN'T ENOUGH TO TURN HEADS...bwahahaha

Pacquiao has always sparred with much bigger guys, that's been a common knowledge but what we have to understand is that recently, Freddie Roach wants to emphasize:

      •*SPEED

again, because he "lost" some speed due to the gain weight and other factors (distractions, inactivity and aging?). Therefore sparring with ligther boxers and emphasizing on footwork drills (as seen on videos) is a logical thing.

The main component to beat Margarito isn't just on the strength. Pacquiao's SPEED and his VOLUME PUNCHES can bring down any giants because his strength has always been there for him.

People laugh at Martirosyan, but that dude has something to prove. He would have gave Pac all he could handle, in my opinion. I just don't see how David Rodela, a subpar lightweight, can help prepare him for Margarito at all.

Again, SPEED. Even Pacquiao's sparring with Amir Khan proved to be a good "checker" for Pacquiao because if anything, SPEED is still Pacquiao's greatest weapon.

Next are his footworks, combinations and multi-angle attacks.

Big people cannot handle speed and doesn't matter how big you are, you are going down after flush punches round after rounds....

See all the opponents from ODLH, Diaz, Hatton, Cotto and Clottey. It is obvious that Freddie Roach isn't so concerned about Pacquiao's strength because it is generally known that he has power.

But his angles to cut and his relentless style of punching from all angles WITH SPEED is what defines Pacquiao's greatness in the heavier weight divisions.

              pac is a small guy.

he doesn't need to get beat up in sparring before a fight.

he just needs sparring to get use to the height and size advantages of marg.

no need to let guys who walk around 20 lbs. heavier tee off on him in sparring.

this definitely ain't good news, i think what this means is that pac was getting his ass licked by the bigger guys (tapia, medina) and they don't want anymore punishment from chavez/vanes.

i think it ain't no bs that this is by far the worst training camp of pac's career.

ehhhh...... he has a bad training camp every fight.

****** tabloid journalism that's why when it comes to packy.

                  we'll see next month.

my guess is roach just doesn't want him to take too much punishment in sparring.

fight is barely over 2 weeks away.

taking a bruising in a fight to win and when something is on the line is one thing. no need for it in sparring.

sparring and fight night are two different things, pacquiao just wanted to spar against someone with a height and reach advantage and a come forward pressure fighter. Now when margarito is looking to throw a hook or uppercut, manny is gonna slip and counter cuz he knows how to get inside against his reach, manny is just too damn fast for margarito aka he whos farts will make u vomit
