Examples please? "Heavy Hands" and "KO Power"

Curious to see what other people think about the two...or even if there is a difference.

Me and a buddy were talking about fighters who are either "Heavy Handed" and fighters who have actual "KO Power". Here is a list of fighters we thought you could classify into one of the two....

    Heavy Handed Fighters:
Cotto, Margarito, Chavez Sr./Jr., Morales, Urango, Barrera, Glen Johnson, Maidana, Kessler, Darchinyan, Clottey, Foreman (George), Arreola, Katsidis, B-Hop, Mayorga, Cintron....

    Actual KO Power:
Berto, Mosley, Gamboa, Pacquiao, Kirkland, Prince Naseem, K Bros, Ali, Tyson, JunaMa, Alexander (Devon), JMM, DLH, Tito, RJJ.....

Again....just wondering if anyone thinks if there is a difference between the two....nice discussion please?

You got it right for the most part just take away some of the names from the KO power like DLH, Berto, and put in Tommy Hearns, Julian Jackson, etc.

Basically heavy handed is a guy with decent strenghth that tends to wear down there opponents with shots (like pavlik, margarito) versus a guy with true ONE punch KO power, like Julian Jackson/Hearns, etc.

At his current age, Vitali has heavy hands.

wow....your list for KO power started with Berto?

Heavy hands...you're right about fighters like Foreman. That **** must feel like sledgehammers..even the ones that got blocked.

KO power...you're wrong about Manny. Manny's TKO's have come from an overwhelming accumulation of solid punches...not power.

KO power = Tyson, Valero, Vitali, 135 lb Shane Mosley, etc..

KO Power to me is the ability to knock someone out with 1 punch pretty much.

Heavy Hands to me would be thudding power. Cotto doesn't knock anyone out with 1 punch, but he does have a lot of "boom" on his punches and they do hurt

Oscar was a one punch killer when he was a lightweight

he had a stick of dynamite in his left hand even as a welterweight

Heavy handed guys are the strong punchers
they'll hurt a guy through the gloves
              with short punches
they're usually broad at the back and have heavy bones and muscles

i dont neccessarily believe we must seperate them from the snapping punchers who generate tremendous leverage and speed. its a rarity to see the two together coupled with the speed and athleticism and timing and boxing skillsn needed to generate a true one punch knockout of a top tier opponent

ray robinson could knock a guy out with a right hand from across the ring or a six inch hook

duran could kayo a guy so fast he wouldnt know what hit him
or just knock him down by hitting him on the gloves

Cotto's last opponent was a Jr middleweight who had never been defeated (never mind stopped)

guess what he stopped him with...

one left hook to the body (and he wasnt even close enough to really blast him)

And to the OP : IF george foreman isnt a "KO puncher" i will eat my boot

one left hook to the body of a man crippled by torn cartilage in his knee

It wasn't any one punch that stopped Foreman in that fight. He was already on shaky legs before that, with his knee injury.

Doesn't matter. Cotto's never been a 1 punch lights out guy in his career IMO
