Except for Iceta, who is just a nutcase, I don't think anybody is under the impression that Segura is scared or will duck Gonzalez. I think it is understandable that he is having a hard time making weight. And, just wants to give Calderon the opportunity that he got. And, then wants to move up which is cool.

However, to say Gonzalez hasn't earned or doesn't deserve to be in the ring with Segura is just nonsense.

I still haven't seen the fight, but Wonjongkam supposedly looked old in his last fight. If Segura plans on fighting Calderon again and Miranda before fighting then going after Wonjongkam, it's likely that Wonjongkam will slip even more than he already has. I think the argument can be made that Gonzalez will be a greater challenge at that point, especially since Segura will be battling the scale.

I've been a bit critical on Gonzalez in the past for some of his choices in opposition, but Niida and Takayama are solid victories. The victory over Takayama will look even better if he can upend Joyi.

Let's not forget that Rosas was not his original opponent, but a short notice replacement. He was a supposed to fight Reveco for the 'regular' WBA title, but I assume he will fight him soon as he won the interim belt against Rosas. So if he beats Reveco, he would've at least earned a shot at Segura in the eyes of the WBA.
