Itīs not official yet but it seems like WBA "regular" champ Gennady Golovkin will defend his part of the title December 11 in Mexico City against Marco Antonio Rubio with Promociones del Pueblo promoting the fight along with Delta Boxpromotion from Luxembourg. Golovikinīs promotional disputes with Universum are still not settled but there appears to be talks of a unification fight of some kind against Sebastian Zbik, the WBC interim titleholder, whoīs still with Universum.

Not a bad first defense and in Mexico. It will be a road fight for him. He fought in Panama a couple of months ago also. So he seems like he is one of those guys that will fight anybody anywhere and I like that.

He might be the hardest hitter in the division also. I really really like this dude. He is making me a fan.

I hope Stum steps up to the plate and fight Golovkin

Good stay-busy defense for Golovkin. Rubio won't be able to handle his power and will eventually be KO'd, but he might be able to give Golovkin some rounds. This story mentions a possible fight with Zbik, but Universum's got to know that Zbik wouldn't last long against Golovkin. Hope it happens, but I will believe it when I see it.

I don't get how that is a unification bout?

I always thought interim means the #1 contender for the WBC champ(in this case the winner of Martinez-Williams II). However, the sanctioning body rules is that if you hold another major title you would not be ranked by said sanctioning body.

So if the winner will be the WBA champ. By rule they would not be a #1 contender to the WBC strap. So they won't be the interim champ. Right?

Rubio is a good stay-active opponent for Golovkin.

I'm glad he's not going to wait until 2011 for his next fight, like Pirog is.

I want Golovkin- Bute, but this is a good fight for Golovkin, Rubio is good, but he looked terrified versus Pavlik.
