There's a big difference here......Canelo is Mexican. It's a lot easier to promote and make a Latino fighter popular because of the loyal latino fanbase. If Canelo was a black American there's no way he'd have this support, and only hardcore fans would know his name. Someone like Paul Williams would've had a huge fanbase with tons and tons of people coming out to support him had he been Mexican or Puerto Rican.

This is true, but only because I honestly believe that promoters have given up on trying to market African-American fighters. King might be the lone exception these days, but has little to no juice left, and even in the event that he can draw a crowd to an event, his fighters fight so infrequently that momentum always dries up.

Berto hasn't fought anyone so he really hasn't earned too many fans yet

I have no idea why people don't like Williams. I guess he can be kinda boring if u don't give him the right opponent. But when u do... Fire works. And he's humble too... I have no idea.

Also the promoter thing. I was surprised how many people didn't know about the super six. If Arum or Golden Boy had been apart of it, or Williams and Berto, it would make a difference.

Why do these guys have no fans? They always try to make it a fight. Discuss.

berto has no fans because:

1) he hugs, grabs, runs and headbutts. his style has morphed into something unwatchable.

3) he won't fight any fight that counts

I wouldn't say Williams doesn't have a good fan base due to him wanting to fight smaller men and not taking on all comers! Ya his promoter could due alot better but its hard to become popular when nobody wants to fight u and your opponents pull out in the last few weeks (Pavlik and the first time Cintron and Williams was suppose to fight). Al haymon gets good money in his fighters pockets and basically gets them whatever HBO date they want, how is that bad?

IF Pacqauio and FLoyd are the best boxers in the world why wouldn't Williams want to fight them if he can make the weight? Isnt that the whole purpose to fight the best to be the best?
