Perhaps some people in the media portray him as black. He doesn't receive a lot of racist hate mail does he?
The "one-drop rule" makes no sense at all.
Most of the great American boxers were actually mixed. Tyson's father was 1/2 white, and his mother was part white too. Ali has some white ancestry on both sides. Foreman is also of mixed race.
Interesting how African boxers rarely seem slick and athletic like the African-American boxers, they are usually stiff and robotic like Joshua Clottey.
And millions of white americans have african ancestry
"random" black kid? don't you mean MILLIONS of random black kids? if you no longer have the inspiration you no longer have anything to build on. larry holmes was inspired by ali from when he was a YOUNG boy. now if larry was NEVER inspired by ali (or ali didn't exist) he probably wouldn't have been the holmes we know today. he likely would have NEVER got into boxing. he would have never became heavyweight boxing champion of the world. what can't you morons understand. IT STARTS FROM A YOUNG AGE. you have to be inspired & jordan inspired almost every young black boy that was even remotely into sports.
i don't know how i could make it CLEARER then then that.
How can anyone say what motivates anyone to do anything? Maybe there is no great black HW today because there are better HWs who happen not to be black.
What a pathetic argument, a great black HW would exist today if he existed
There are great athletes in every race. Sometimes the odd genetic oddity pops up he could be black or white. It will only be a matter of time before there is another great black heavyweight.
This is true. It has more to do with INDIVIDUAL genetics rather than racial genetics.
for a white person to question the NBA or NFL theory.....it's pretty much meaningless (especially if you live out side of the u.s.) in the AA community when jordan became so ultra famous almost NO one wanted to be boxers anymore. i remember there was a time when every young black boy wanted to be HEAVYWEIGHT champ of the world. fathers would even call their boys champs (thinking they were gonna rain as A heavyweight champion one day) barber shops were FILLED with gossip about boxing.
when jordan became so ultra famous in the 90s he brought a movement with him. "i wanna be like mike" almost all of the young african american boys wanted to follow in his foots. i GREW UP IN AMERICA AS A BLACK KID so i should know. boxing became a thing of the past. if you are white & live outside of the u.s. you wouldn't understand this.
this commercial about "wanting to be like mike" was pretty much a understatement at the time. MIKE BECAME EVERY YOUNG AA KID WHO WAS EVEN A TINY BIT INTERESTED IN SPORTS. mike tyson was really the last heavyweight that young black boys in america looked up to. when he was gone it was REALLY over at that point. i think black boxers of today in GENERAL have lost talent. & it goes back to stuff like this. but the major hit was in the heavyweight division as that was the most popular division in the AA community.
also the NBA players of the past (like the 60's 70's) are probably smaller then the ones today. thats because of change of diet. thats why there were so many "small" american heavyweights in the 60's compared to today. those guys would have been BIGGER if they came up on our diet, time, & realty. all of these tall big lebron james most likely didn't care about boxing coming up as a kid. thats because jordan & his movement captivated these boys hearts & they wanted to be like MJ & no longer like ali.
THIS IS WHAT AA BOYS WAS SEEING AS THEY WERE GROWING UP. ITS EASY TO SEE WHY HEAVY INTREST WAS LOST. if you still can't understand this. I WOULD argue that you just can't comprehend basic logic. it's EASY to see to me & it's SOLID valid points.
And millions of white americans have african ancestry
so whats your point?
My point is that anyone who believes that blacks are athletically the superior race and are genetically superior boxers is wrong, just like someone believing whites are intellectually the superior race is wrong.
How can anyone say what motivates anyone to do anything? Maybe there is no great black HW today because there are better HWs who happen not to be black.
What a pathetic argument, a great black HW would exist today if he existed
OMG.
as a kid. berry sanders INSPIRED me to play football. i use to watch him as a kid in AW. anyone will tell you that kids are like sponges. they suck up what they see. when jordan came every young black kid wanted to be like mike & NO LONGER LIKE ALI. my generation of black kids i can honestly say didn't even care about boxing after jordan took off.
not only that but there is a ALL around lack of interest after the 90's not just with the heavyweight division but black fighters have went down in general when it comes to the talent level & selection.
THIS IS WHERE THE REAL TRUTH RESIDES.
but if we were to go by your logic.
the division is NOT weak & the "klit" bros are just simply dominating & would have done the same in any era. (i know you didn't say this but I'm gonna throw this in there just for a thought) & "eastern Europeans have taken over"
boxing has been through a million eras. NOT ONE eastern European came close to dominating. but what i consider the weakest division of the sport & entire heavyweight history...OH NOW 2 brothers are dominating. typical.
I'm not saying that the klit bros aren't good but you have to come with facts & logic.
otherwise you're gonna look like a crazed loony who's making comments PURELY on butt hurt emotions.
Jordan really set a good example....and Inspiration for others
yea he did.
they also have a new nba 2k11 game where you can play with EVERY jordan & all of the old players (the jordan with the fade, the one where he's almost balding, & the bald jordan) i was shocked to see that this "game" jordan plays FREAKISHLY like the real life one. in fact all of the players play like their real life counter parts. look at the kobe vid also. anyone that likes basket ball & jordan should go & pick it up.
For those saying "Why don't these black athletes that don't make it to the NBA just join boxing."
By saying that u r insulting the Klitchko's ability. U think some guy who just turned to this sport as a back-up plan could beat a Klitchko? No.
For those of u who doubt that Michael Jordan had anything to do with the rise of Basketball's popularity in the black community.
Let's put it this way, u can make millions of dollars in a single season, with limited if any contact. Full media coverage considering how popular the sport is. And really all u have to do to be successful in the sport (excluding practicing and enhancing ur skill) is stay in shape. Or u can start off making about 100,000 max ur first few fights. Training ur body to both absorb and deliver impact. Getting punched in the face and body night after night. With a chance u will never make it to the million dollar fights being bigger than u think. If I had a choice, as much as I like boxing I'd pick basketball.
And for those that merely think Europeans just entered the ranks and started dominating.
Look at the lower weights and see how much ur dominating. It's not like u guys aren't good fighters. It's not like they can't be the best in any weight classes. Its just a fact u guys couldn't shut any weight class down like the Klitchko's have done when u have other athlete's equal or around ur caliber fighting u. Klitchko's don't have that.
