I really don't care about the color of the boxer myself either but I will root for an Ukrainian boxer over any other boxer, because I was born there, that's the way boxing is, you root for your color, nationality, your neighborhood. Having said that there is a very good black boxer born in Ukraine, Ismail Silakh. You should all check him out, he has promise.the majority of quality heavyweights have always been from the states, especially black heavyweights. these days the best big men in the US get into other sports, kids want to be in the nba or nfl, not boxing like they did back in the day. bcuz of that the only big men who try boxing do it cuz they cant copmpete anywhere else, all the quality athletes are in other sports.

the sport is really depending on this to change, like i said the quality heavyweights have always been from the states. we had lewis and the klitschkos recently come out of europe but thats rare and its unlikely that there will be quality europeans to carry the torch when the klitschkos retire. chagaev, maskaev, ibragimov etc are low level athletes too. none of these guys would be contenders in any other era much less champions.

the HW division needs to be revived, even more so than the rest of boxing. i dont care if they are black or white but americans need to get their shit together, im european myself.

I just hate it when Americans dismiss how good the E. Euros are by saying that all their big men are playing other sports. It's a cop out and not true. Boxing is on the decline but you still have qualtiy boxers in the US. But boxing is on the decline in other countries as well, it's not like boxing is that big in other countries compared to say soccer or hockey.Comment

Without a doubt there are athletes in the NFL and NBA that would have become better fighters than the current crop had they been raised to do so.

A good proof of this is Derek Rossy. He was not an amateur boxer. He was a college football player at Boston College, a pretty average one at that. He wasn't big enough, fast enough or strong enough to be a Pro Football player so what did he do?

He became a Heavyweight boxer, got world ranked, and is currently in negotiation to be part of a world title eliminator tournament.

All this accomplished by a very average football player, with no boxing background.Comment

Boxing is the number 1 (in fact, only) sport in the country of Eastern Europe. An interest in any other sport is considered unmanly, and therefore punishable by death by firing squad. That's the only reason these big, dumb unathletic robots are dominating. The average Eastern Europeans day consists of waking up, taking some steroids, eating some borsht then going to train in the gym till it comes time to praise the Great Leader (Big Brother Vitali). They then eat some more borsht, with potato pancakes, take some more steroids and go to bed.

Well the same could be said for Eastern Euros then, that we haven't even seen the best boxers from there because most of them are siphoned by basketball and hockey. Look at Valuev - a Russian minor league basketball reject who didn't start boxing until his mid-twenties, turned pro and went 48-0 and became world champion. I just turned your argument on your head.Without a doubt there are athletes in the NFL and NBA that would have become better fighters than the current crop had they been raised to do so.

Yeah, so what? Being great in one sport doesn't automatically mean being great in another. The best potential HW in the world right now might be a totally average guy in a dead-end job for all we know.Without a doubt there are athletes in the NFL and NBA that would have become better fighters than the current crop had they been raised to do so.

That's an awful example because Valuev sucks. Yes, he was 48-0 but no one would classify him as a great. Valuev did well in boxing because boxing when it all boils down to it, it is still fighting. It's not easy to beat down a 8 foot 400lb man.Well the same could be said for Eastern Euros then, that we haven't even seen the best boxers from there because most of them are siphoned by basketball and hockey.
