Though I don't really blame Valuev as he's simply too big to fight like a smaller man. He's shown himself to be a fairly smart fighter, but too slow to make it count. The comments themselves aren't necessarily wrong.Comment

I am not a fan of Valuev at all but I think he made a valid point. The Klits are content to pot-shot their ways to victory and a hungry fighter would have got Briggs out of there. But, being as that may, I still don't see anyone who can beat the Klits and I am getting bored waiting. I would have loved to see a prime Tyson fight these guys, that would have made for some interesting fights...Comment

You said it, a hungry fighter. Vit's 39 years old I think the hunger was gone at least 10 years ago. He does it because he can. Vit let up on Briggs after the 10th. I think he decided that Briggs proved himself and had taken enough. After the 10th he took it easy.I am not a fan of Valuev at all but I think he made a valid point. I disagree. He took a lot of round 11 off probably because he expended a helluva lot of energy trying to KO Briggs in the 10th. However, in the last round he made a big effort again and was visibly angry at the end of the fight because he didn't get the KO. If he wasn't hungry and didn't give a damn, he would have just been happy to get the win.
Vitali was also a bit unlucky, because Briggs was out and falling into the ropes at the end of round 7, and 30 more seconds would have seen him flat on his back.
Vitali is still "hungry" and very motivated to get the last belt for the Klitschkos. He has explained his motivation many times in interviews, saying that he felt very bad when he had to retire due to injuries with people accusing him of being "afraid" of Hasim Rahman. He feels he has gotten a bonus second chance and wants to make the most of it. And he certainly is: fighting often and barely losing a round since he came back.
Anyone who wasn't motivated could never accomplish what Vitali is accomplishing. His problem now is that he makes it look easy, but it isn't.
Vitali works very hard at it and is still improving in many ways. Due to the influence of Manny Steward, Vitali is much better at measuring distance now, and takes far less punishment than he did back in the days when he fought Lewis and Sanders. Again, if he was just marking time, he wouldn't worry about trying to improve.
Vitali is a wealthy man and certainly doesn't have to box ever again if he doesn't want to do so. But the man loves to fight.Last edited by ChopperRead; 10-19-2010, 04:44 PM.Comment
