Paulie Malignaggi is one of my favorite fighters. I really have no explanation for being such a big fan. I like his style and admire his heart (no ****).
For those that aren't familiar with The Magic Man, he is a true warrior. He never ducked anybody and always fought the best available. He's had only a few minor setbacks. Let's look at them.
Miguel Cotto loss - This is where the greatest undefeated streak in boxing history this side of Rocky Marciano came to an end. Miguel Cotto is a fierce competitor and I take nothing away from him. However, a few things went wrong. During the weigh-in Paulie had what's called a "blowout", which requires alot of gel. During the fight gel residue from the day before affected Paulie's vision and and he was getting hit flush. Even still he continued to fight with a broken jaw like a true warrior.
Ricky Hatton loss - So many things went wrong here. Not only was Buddy McGirt a horrible fit for Paulie, but Hatton used performance enhancers in the form of a drug called "*******". Hatton had been using "*******" after his KO loss to Mayweather. "*******" is a stimulant drug that is known to give you boosts of adrenaline. It also helps you lose weight. This explains why Hatton did so well.
Juan Diaz loss - This was the worst robbery in the history of sports. Paulie was a victim of what is known as the "Texas hometown decision". There's more than just steers and ****** in the state of Texas, apparently, there are crooked judges.
Amir Khan - It's pretty obvious what happened here. For those that don't know, Malignaggi will now be competing at the welterweight limit (147 for noobs), which explains why he did so poorly against Khan. PAULIE WAS DRAINED. Very drained. There's also the possibilty he overlooked Khan, because when you're the p4p best fighter on earth (even if the rest of the world doesn't know it) you tend to overlook hungry guys like Khan. Hell, it happened to Tyson.

All in all, I expect Malignaggi to dominate the 147 division. Mayweather (who already ducked him once) and Pacquiao will avoid Paulie. At 147 he will be healthy, fast, and strong. Paulie's power is underrated. It's not that he can't KO his opponents, it's that he doesn't want to. There's a method to the madness. If Paulie were to show how powerful he is, he would have had the entire 140lb division avoid him, thus making it hard to land any good fights. Instead he chooses to show off his unmatched skill for 12 rounds of domination. A man so skilled, Mayweather refused to fight him while looking for an opponent pre-Mosley. A man so skilled, Roach decided to let Khan do Pacquiao's dirty work.
Long live Malignaggi!!
