"the great black hope"

There seems to be a double standard.

We've often heard "great white hope" and there was even a movie "the great white hope" and another "the great white hype"

But you'll be accused of being racist as some people get upset with "great black hope"

That DOUBLE STANDARD is racist.

It should be "Great American Hope", cause right now Americans are lacking a serious heavyweight threat, regardless of colour.

there's no need for black hope because when its comes to to boxing black athletes have been there done that 10 times better. in 5 years no body will remember why klits are.

both phrases are dumb..but this is 2010 and im disgusted REAL boxing fans even look at color..im black as you can see in my avy and enjoyed every monemt briggs(an african american)was beaten..im a klit fan cause of their skill not color..only a racist would be concerned about color..sickening

its not a double standard and its not racist, things have changed.

back in those days ppl always rooted for their own race, whites would root for whites and blacks would root for blacks. blacks just happened to dominate the sport at the time so white ppl would look for a great white hope. hense the term great white hope was born.

today its not like that, only a few racist ppl stick to rooting for their own race. like yourself and the TS. the majority of ppl dont care what race someone has. hense there isnt any great white/black/latino/eskimo hopes etc. great american hope perhaps.
