Former heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs may have been too brave for his own good. RTL reports that following the brutal twelve round beating at the hands of WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko, Briggs was taken to a hospital in Hamburg and still remains in the intensive care unit as of Sunday. Briggs was initially taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure to check for a brain bleed. After doctors confirmed that he only suffered a concussion, he was quickly sent to the intensive care unit after they discovered multiple factures on his face, including fractures under both eyes.

It was his corners job to know when the fight was going too far as well as the referee, they let this fight go on well to long, could've even been stopped in the 7th/8th.

Just hope he recovers fully.

Wow,I'm not too surprised either. Briggs must have taken at least 75 flush, solid straight rights while he had his left hand down and he was eating them like candy. I hope the guy is alright, his face was taking a pounding like a drum, I quit watching after the 11th rd...the outcome was inevitable.

Doesn't surprise me in the least - he was heavily tattooed with blunt-force power in the 2nd half of the fight.


The corner should have thrown in the towel during that whopping he took in the 10th at the very latest, IMO. That way he still could've ended the fight on his feet instead of a stool.

Someone should make that ref and the corner go through 12 rounds being punched in the face by Vitali. Boxers = proud guys (mostly) who don't know when to quit
