Even if not that early, then at least after the ninth or tenth - whatever round it was when Briggs stumbled back to his corner and nearly fell off of his stool when sitting down in between rounds.

I can't understand why the referee didn't stop the fight in the 10th round, and why the corner or doctor didn't stop it after that round.

It became sickening to watch during the 10th round, only a sadist would enjoy that. Briggs had no chance, he couldn't defend himself - it wasn't a sporting boxing match any more, it became something ugly.

Briggs instructed his corner not to stop the fight under any circumstances.

He also instructed them to tell the referee that they did not want the fight stopped as it was Brigg's last chance for a title shot.

              I should say.....

Even aside from Briggs instructions to his corner.....

I agree, that fight should have been stopped earlier.

Nice post, agree with the guy who said Briggs may now be brain damaged, he probably is after such a vicious beating. They should of stopped the fight earlier, would have been better for everyone involved.

I can understand telling the corner that but can you really get the referee to do that as well? Surely a ref's prime concern is the well-being of both fighters, regardless of their wishes.
