Comments Thread For: Tarver's Heavyweight Debut Leaves Questions

If 41, soon to be 42, year old former Light Heavyweight king Antonio Tarver (28-6, 19 KO) of Tampa, Florida, won but left room for improvement and skepticism about his chances at Heavyweight on Friday night at the Buffalo Run Casino, Miami, Oklahoma. While he won going away, Tarver struggled in spots and his best shots didn’t do the damage they might have lower on the scale, 24-year old journeyman Nagy Aguilera (16-5, 11 KO) of Newburgh, New York, able to last the distance in a unanimous decision loss.

No question about it, he was HORRIBLE. Zero power at heavyweight.

I think Tarver's move to Heavyweight was just his excuse not to work harder in making weight in his previous lower weight classes.

Sadly, I think his only claim to fame is beating RJJ...

Tarver is a solid pro who beat Glen Johnson and Reggie Johnson as well as Clinton Woods, so it's not like he's a nobody.

He's 41 going on 42. It's probably unlikely it was easy for him to make light heavyweight anymore.

I think he's just seeing what he can do, and cashing in while he can in a weak division.

I don't think he can handle the Klits or even Adamek at this point but he can be a problem for the second tier of heavies.

Tarver is the man. He's 42, his reflexes havn't been the same for a while. He won't likely beat the Klitschkos if he ever gets that far, but with 2 or 3 more fights under his belt he could be dangerous to Haye or Adamek. He didn't look great, but he definetly didn't look bad, and don't forget, in the heavyweight division hes not going to be fighting guys with the speed or skill of a Chad Dawson.... And he also faught more than half the fight with a shoulder injury
