Lampley never should have brought up Ford's R12 score

After seeing maybe the 500th post concerning Ford's round 12 scoring of the Hopkins - Taylor fight, I've come to realize how much Jim Lampley truly ruined this fight by bringing up this issue at the end of the HBO broadcast. The funny thing is that I first watched this fight from a bar and missed Lampley bringing this up, so for a while I was really confused as to why everyone was focusing on this issue. Then when I saw the replay I figured it out.

I respect Lampley but he really did a disservice by bringing this one particular score to everyone's attention. He should have known how folks parrot everything they hear on TV and that this would become "the excuse" for die-hard Hopkins fans as to why their fighter got screwed. Nevermind all the other bull**** scoring going on that evening: for instance, Roth had it 4-4 after 8.

The funny thing is that the exact same situation occured in the first Johnson-Tarver fight, yet Tarver was classy enough not to turn it into a big issues. Tarver clearly won round 12 yet one judge gave it to Johnson, and if it had gone the other way the fight would have been a draw. Exact same situation. Yet since it wasn't mentioned on TV, nobody talks about it.

Lampley should have known better than to have created a phoney news story. People think that they're being smart by bringing up this round 12 nonsense, when all they're doing is retelling the same meaningless story they heard on TV.

yeah, that's true but hopkins and hopkins fans are ****** for saying he got robbed. a robbing is winning by 2 or more rounds convincingly and hopkins did not do that. and no one seems to mention the rounds that the other 2 judges gave to hopkins when taylor clearly won it (i think round 8 or something)

Yes, check out Roth's card and you'll definitely see a few that he scored for Hopkins that easily could have gone to Taylor.

The thing that bugs me this so-called controversy is that judging by its nature isn't an exact science. The system is meant to help dettermine a winner when the fight goes the distance, and if neither fighter did enough to win convincingly than they have nothing to complain about if the scores go a bit funny. If it comes down to one point here or there than you didn't do your job in the ring. It's not like anybody is going after a "one point" win, or at least they shouldn't be.
