Aside from Roger’s funny, yet ironic comments, Bert Sugar really makes a bold statement, it wasn’t entirely how it happened, but he pretty much hit it on the head. That’s just a random video of some predictions, but what did most of you think of this matchup when it was announced, and does that play into your belief today, or not, that Margarito used plaster in this fight.

man, I was so pumped for this fight. two great fighters both in their primes fighting eachother.
I remember saying it was a true pick 'em fight and either cotto was going to win a very close decision or margarito was going to knock him out. I slightly favored cotto probably due to being a little biased and wanting cotto to win.Comment

I remember picking Cotto by close decision, being a fan of Miguel but secretly hoping Margarito would win just because I was so sick of people dissing him and calling him overrated, etc. I thought it was a great style matchup and one that would be determined in the final three rounds. I thought a win would plant Cotto as #1 on the pound for pound list, that's how much I respected Tony. And it was the first time I ever rooted against Miguel but I remember watching the fight with some fellow writers, trainers and a couple fighters and when Margarito induced the stoppage, I leaped out of my seat and raised both hands in the air. I was so happy for him--to see him get the respect that had eluded him for so long. Ahh well...Comment

I always knew that it would be fireworks. But I remember picking Miguel Cotto though. I thought that his boxing talent would win him the fight although Tony was a tough, rugged fighter.
But, I vividly remember Cotto landing some BOMBS and Tony just didn't stop coming forward, I literally couldn't believe what I was seeing. Tony landed some huge shots as well too though. One of the best fights I've seen, but the damage done to both fighters is apparent.Comment

when this match up was finalized i remember being super stoked...it was one of those fights that i clamored for...even after Tony's loss to Williams...i had a feeling it was gonna be really good...the actual fight was even more than what i imagined
with that said, i had a feeling, west coast bias aside, that Tony was gonna wear Cotto down...
i remember talking to one of my buddies who watched Cotto-Shane with us and i told him 'when Miguel was backpedalling in that final round, lets see if he can do that for multiple rounds'
i knew Miguel was going to get some of the early rounds, due to Tony's usually slow starts but i didnt think Cotto was gonna look as sharp as he did
the rapid pace at which Cotto faded kinda surprised me...within a round or two, he went from having full control to completely looking gassed
we're all aware of what happened with Tony after but for this fight fan, that particular matchup is still one of my favorites to watch...
not a big fan of Kellerman but his statement of 'this was a modern classic' is very spot onComment
