Comments Thread For: Bute's HBO Return: Green Not Likely, Pavlik Preferred

If super middleweight Lucian Bute (26-0, 21KOs) is victorious this Friday when he defends his IBF title against Jesse Brinkley at the Bell Centre in Montreal, an HBO televised fight is being discussed for the month of March. One name that was kicked around by Bute's promoter, InterBox, was IBO cruiserweight champion Danny Green - if Green was able to meet their fighter at a reasonable catch-weight. That fight won't happen any time soon. From what I've been told, there has been some loose discussion with Green, and he made it clear that he won't go below 185-pounds.

    Good. Green is a joke.

    Bute should stay at 168.

I see Pavlik going after Sturm before fighting Bute. Top Rank hasn't completely given up on Kelly.

If Bute wouldn't have ducked Pascal, he'd have a fight lined up for January in the biggest fight in Canada's history. Now, he might have to try to settle for a fight against Jermain Taylor, Allan Green, or unless I'mm missing something Diaconu.

Is Jermain talking about a comeback? I havent heard anything.
Kelly is actually a pretty dangerous fight for Bute. Bute would be the favorite for obvious reasons, be we already saw him get stopped by a limited fighter in Andrade. I think Kelly is at least as good as Andrade, and hits harder.

I remember reading an article on Taylor feeling refreshed and ready to return a few months back. Don't know if he was talked out of it, but I expect a return from Taylor sooner rather than later.

I personally think Pavlik would be a very dangerous fight too, but if you factor in perception and momentum, I'm not sure the people at TR would be confident in throwing Pavlik in against Bute. IMO it's the reason they decided to have Pavlik to try to stay at 160, when the obvious matchup at 160 would've been Bute. Would be a great fight though.

I may be way off, but I think Pavlik will come in to the Vera fight around 162, and call out the Williams/Martinez II winner. 168 is a freaking mess right now. Dirrell is gone. Kessler is gone. Taylor is gone and KP already beat him twice. The looser of Froch/Abraham will have back to back losses. Allan Green might literally die in the ring against Pavlik.

At 160 there's Pirog, Williams, Martinez, Sturm, and a bunch of young guns coming up. There are more fights and more money availablefor Pavlik at 160.

I see. Taylor is a better fighter than he is given credit for, Id love to see him back in the mix, although I think it might be a good idea to give him a softer touch first time back.
I agree about Pavlik and Bute, I could see why Pavlik's people would want that fight next for him. From my point of view I see it as a great opportunity for him to reestablish himself as a top player, but its also easy to see why they would be weary about putting him in with a destroyer like Bute. Id like to see it, though.
