Not even a big payday would get these guys to man up. They are punk ass divas in every since of the word.
They knew they were going to have to fight each other as soon as they knew they were both in the Super Six, and if they so desperately didn't want to fight each other they would never have agreed in the first place to take place in the tourney.

They may be divas, but I don't think Dirrell is faking this. He would lose too much if anyone found out.

Don't be shocked if Ward-Dirrell is Postponed
      -August 13, 2010

One of the many things I love about Showtime's Super Six World Boxing Classic is that when I'm writing about it or talking about it, I don't have to think about Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather. But speaking of the Super Six, it seems awfully likely that the Andre Ward-Andre Dirrell super middleweight title bout scheduled for Sept. 25 is going to be postponed.

We're about six weeks out and there has not been a news conference, there is no site and tickets are not on sale, which you can't do without a site. That's not exactly a good way to promote a highly significant title fight between 2004 U.S. Olympic teammates and medal winners.

But with regard to Ward-Dirrell, there has been nothing but silence.

When I asked Dirrell promoter Gary Shaw about the situation the other day, he didn't want to get into it. When I asked again to please be honest about it, his response was, "I can't be honest. I'm a promoter." Maybe he was saying that in jest, maybe not. So when I pressed him further, Shaw told me to ask Dan Goossen, Ward's promoter.

So I did that. When I talked to Goossen on Thursday night and asked him to clarify the situation, he didn't provide a real answer, electing to duck it like David "The Ducker" Haye is ducking Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko.

Ward-Dirrell: Showtime Sends Legal Letters Warning Both
      -September 5, 2010

Showtime, the network behind the ongoing Super Six Boxing Classic, has issued legal letters to promoters Dan Goossen and Gary Shaw, advising both sides that their fighters, WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward and once-beaten Andre Dirrell, have to go through with their scheduled fight in the Super Six tournament, and gave both promoters three potential dates. Showtime, threatening legal action, directed both boxers to fight on either September 25, October 2 or October 9.

Ward and Dirrell are scheduled to meet in the third stage of the Super Six on September 25. There is still no venue for the fight and unless a miracle takes place, the fight will not move forward on the date. In mid-2009, the participants of the Super Six, and their promoters, signed binding contracts to follow Showtime's tournament layout and proceed with the scheduled fights. During the last few weeks, there have been industry rumors that Ward and Dirrell, who are close friends, were looking for ways to avoid their scheduled fight.

Shaw, who promotes Dirrell, said Showtime, per their letter, would hold both sides in "breach of contract" if the fight didn't happen on one of the three date provided. And although Dirrell was quoted as saying that his fight with Ward "is being postponed," Shaw is not aware of any official postponement. Shaw disclosed that there is no finalized deal with Ward's promoter, Goossen, and no venue has been secured.

Then there was news of an unnamed neurological disorder that would force a cancellation of the fight and possibly end Dirrell's career.

Then a day or 2 later, his doctor says he might be cleared to box/spar in 3 months.

Get well soon Andre, something tells me you will make a miraculous recovery and we'll be seeing you in the ring real soon (just not against your boy Ward).

if dirrell really does have neurological problems, he should quit boxing forever. the fact is, dirrell will get hit in the head again on multiple ocassions in the future if he does continue with this career. it just isn't worth it. his health is more important. for this reason, he shouldn't box ever again.

If it's clear that he's faking it then I can't see Showtime ever having him back on one of their shows. And with his intensely un-crowdpleasing style, flakiness and general diva-like demeanour, I can't see why anyone else would want to take him on either. On the flip side, if he's been telling the truth then it means he's a physical liability, and no one wants the possibility of a death or paralysis occurring in one of his future fights, do they? At any rate, the future doesn't look bright. Tut tut tut.... Dirrell really should have chosen the blue pill.

exactly. If he really does have neurological problems, he should not ever lace them up again. That is why i think this is a bunch of B. S. If they let him fight, they are putting him in danger.
