Why do commentators say things they know aren't true?

Like in the Pacquiao - Barrera rematch, Lampley said something like "don't forget Barrera knocked Pacquiao down in their first fight".
Everybody knows it was a slip, he should have said that. It's like he got excited and tried to make it more than it was.

He and Kellerman have also said on occasion that Calzaghe was down against Eubank, when it was the other way round.

Would you be able to say everything 100% correct while talking in front of millions and with no do overs?

No, human error is normal, that's why I said in my title "things they know aren't true". They say certain things to "****e up" a situation even though they know it's a lie.

Those are good examples. Check how many times HBO say that Calzaghe was down against Eubank.

Because they are not the BOSS. They are employees who are told which way they should swing, and that's what they do. Now the way that they do it is another thing.

It seems repetition bugs you. I am bugged by Kellerman's half-assed attempts at being some kind of psychologist regarding fighters.

I don't think they pull everything out of their memory. I think they have a piece of paper there with details written down from other fights that might be worth noting. Not sure if they are the ones that wrote it down or it was given to them. Just my guess. Lampley remembers too much for it not to be written down, IMO.

How do we know? Write a letter to HBO.
