Let me say (and i know most on here know this) that i'm the biggest Lacy fan already so i was thrilled about the fight tonight. Lacy won by being the better fighter and dropped Reid a solid three times.
But i can't help but feel bad for Reid in the way the referee handled the fight.
-At first, it looked like the knockdown AND the point deduction were uneccessary, but after looking at it slow again, it was an INTENSIONAL headbutt. But in ALL, the round was managed horribly. If you're a ref and you call TIME-OUT, GET YOUR ASS IN BETWEEN THE TWO FIGHTERS SO THAT KIND OF THING CAN'T HAPPEN. If Alsonso had made it perfectly clear that he was calling timeout, i guarentee the shot from Lacy wouldn't have happened. Be clear when you call time-out, you know the crowd is loud, adrenaline is flowing, TAKE CONTROL JORGE!
-The point taken for holding in the 7th? Completely unneccessary. Come on Jorge? At this point, i have Reid down by 9 points to Lacy, 60-51 i believe, it is not needed to take more away, when Reid obviously needs to do more to come even close to winning the fight.
-And generally, i think he did alot of bickering to both fighters during the 7 rounds. In all, he didn't CONTROL the fight. You're the referee, you are the matador controlling these bulls. If you can't handle it, step down and let someone else that's qualified do it.
So what should the boxing commision do? I def. think action needs to be taken. Probably just bump him down a few notches. No championships at least.
