My God, what an awful fight! As the SKY commentary team asked: did a brilliant Lacy make Reid look old, or did an old Reid make Lacy look brilliant?
I don't know. I was certainly pretty impressed with Lacy, though Reid is clearly at the end of his 12+ year fight career. He came up against a younger, fresher, hungrier fighter just four years off his debut and got KD'd so many times I lost count.
Reid just couldn't get his timing going, and the most I could give it was 69-59 to Lacy before it was stopped... and that's being generous to Robin.
I don't know what's worse, though: The fact that I lost 11 million in points, and £40 in real money, or the fact that I've now (presumably) got to read a string of racist comments due to Reid's performance.
Bear in mind Reid is just ONE MAN, not a nation, then his performance against Lacy saw a jaded 34-year-old resort to so many rule infringements he might as well have had "disqualify me now, please" tattooed on his forehead. The guy's a scouser, he got in trouble and he put the nut in. Lacy wasn't totally innocent, but the ref was reasonably fair under the circumstances. When I saw that hit behind the head (Reid's an experienced professional and Olympic medal winner - what WAS he thinking?!!!?) I immediately thought of Godzhand and what he'd say.
Yeah... that's the same Godzhand that I now owe 10 million to. Cheers Robin!
