Paying fighters too much is ruining boxing. They suddenly can become choosy primadonnas since they already millionaires after 1 or a few HBO fights. Some of them..not all.

Berto is ridiculously unworthy of what's being invested in him.

He's just nothing that special. Never understood the level of fuss around that guy.

First UFC has become popular because of the dumbing down of society as a whole.

The article made some good points but is has some BS with it also. Ok HBO has some black out dates but what good quality fights could other networks have put on to so called catch up with HBO? HBO does what it does because it has the most money and people continue to pay for BS products that it puts out so why would it change. People need realize HBO is a for profit company first and foremost. So HBO's first priority is to make a profit and if the fight is actually good is secondary. NBC, FOX, ABC or CBS would actually do good ratings if they decided to show more amatuer international boxing tournaments, televise the boxing in the olympics or bring back a show like the wild world of sports. Which give boxing and young fighters more exposure to people and then let move from there to channels like HBO, Showtime and if they earn it to PPV. But in a we want it now and greedy society **** like that just ain't gonna happen.

So we all will continue to pay for BS fights 90% of the time and be told to like it like we are now.

Berto is the opening fight on that HBO which is what he should be. At the same time though what opening fight fighter gets 1.2 mill? HBO held all the cards in Berto's situation because he couldn't go anywhere and even get $500,000. So Berto was in a situation to either face who HBO says or sit and watch his career go by and have to get a 9-5 job.

Berto should really be on ESPN Friday night fights still or if they still had it USA Tuesday night fights.

Well for starters we'd see a lot more big fights. And lower salaries. You'd also see some more creativity, with promoters pitching fights the ABC's and NBC's of the world. I'm not saying HBO turning off the faucet is a good thing. I'm just saying they should turn it down a bit.

if HBO turned off the faucet, pwill, berto, and dawson would all be making less than 300k.

Berto's a c+ fighter at this point and if DiBella mans up and puts him in with one of the young tigers like Mike Jones it would answer alot of questions.

I understand the window of opportunity for other players to step up and get involved while HBO is inactive, but HBO is not the only one cutting budgets.

If HBO quits we have to declare Showtime the winner. No buts.

Its becoming a joke that bums like Berto are making 1.2m for a undercard fight when you can put on a complete 3 fight event for 1.25m that will be 1000x popular than Berto. This dude cant even bring in 900 people and has no fan base, I dont see why you pay someone that much money? If he brought people over from another sport like Brock did for the UFC than yea I see a point.

The reason UFC is successfull is because they dont overpay their fighters, the top earner is Brock at 500k per fight before bonuses and thats only because he brought over all the inbreds from WWF.

The rest top guys make 150-350k FLAT with the journeyman making 75k and upcomers making like 10-50k.

HBO is getting 0 value in Berto and no fans no publicity, they could have 3 awesome fights for 1.25m instead of paying that useless nogood BUM 1.25m

Sadly its all because Al Hymen has Dirt on HBO or Time Warner connections so he is black mailing them to pay whatever price he wants. If i was HBO I would say FU to all promoters and cut peoples pay in half, if they dont want to fight let them go somewhere else.
