    Joe Frazier

Just a question being raised out of wondering. What has Frazier done (excluding winning against Ali once) in boxing to put him in any boxing Hall Of Fame ? And does the Hall Of Fame really mean anything to the fans or students of boxing ?

He was the "opponent" of one of the most most celebrated athletes in history - that's basically his legacy.Based on resume and accomplishments alone,Frazier is not an ATG and doesn't deserve to have his name put up there along with the true greats of this sport. His resume is lacking too many of the top contenders of his career that he blatantly ducked. He sat back and let the likes of Jerry Quarry and Muhammad Ali clear the division why he took fights with greater reward than risk.

Top ten contenders like Ron Lyle,Earnie Shavers and Mac Foster were all able to secure fights with the likes of Ali and Quarry, and yet Frazier wouldn't dare step in the ring with these punchers. It's no mere coincidence that he missed out on fighting so many of these contenders.Yank Durham carefully guided him along on the way up,matching him up against used-up,ex contenders like Doug Jones and Eddie Machen, all the while clearly avoiding a fight with fellow Philadelphia-based heavyweight,Leotis Martin.

Frazier turned down the offer to take part in the WBA's heavyweight tournament also has to be held against him. This tournament featured most of the best heavyweights in the world and the winner would rightfully be the very best heavyweight in the world. It was a great risk, and a risk that demand that there be no easy fights, and that these contenders fight on a regular basis.A true great, eager to prove himself would have stepped up at first opportunity and established himself as the very best right there and then.Frazier failed to do so,however.

When it comes to heavyweight greats,Frazier doesn't belong on any credible top ten list

He beat Mathis, Ellis, Quarry and Bonanvena. He was the champ that gave the People's champ a title shot and he spent the 70s living off that reputation.

Still it was Foreman that broke him, twice...not Ali.

I think, well I know Ali broke him...He didn't win the 2 out of three (really didn't win the first fight in my brow) plus he still to this very day complains about Ali, not Foreman. And it has nothing to do with what Ali said...Cause Ali talked junked to Shavers, Lyle, Terrel, Foreman, etc...and they all don't trip off what he said, but off of what great fighter he was...However in the ring Big George Destroyed him and Prinzemanspoppa, wow your deep in your explaining your pronouncement of the subject. And I concur with you as well.

Ali wasn't the Henry Armstrong real deal man who put Frazier on the canvas for the first time in his life

That fight with Foreman just illustrated the ability Foreman had. Foreman first time in the ring with Frazier and just put him on his back 6 times in two rounds...Here I've been looking on youtube:

Thats damage, thats why he lost to Ali in the rematches. Foreman broke him.

That reminds me of that guy from french guinea or something who, some way or another, got a wild card to the olympics. Think people ended up calling him Eric the Eel or something. Remember him??
