At the Olympic Coliseum at the University of Guadalajara, Juan “Goofy” Montes (19-1, 12 KOs) pulled out a five round technical decision over Silvester Lopez (14-3-1, 10 KOs) to win a WBC super flyweight eliminator. A clash of heads opened up a cut above the right eye of Montes, which eventually got to a point where he couldn't continue and the fight had to go to the scorecards. All three judges scored the fight 48-45. Montes is now in line to fight his countryman, Tomas Rojas, who won the vacant title last week in Japan.
