Comments Thread For: Oscar Wants to Rule the World (Ok, Not Really But…)

By Cliff Rold - In a slow week for domestic boxing news, comments made by future Hall of Famer boxer and current Golden Promotions figurehead Oscar De La Hoya got some attention. As recounted by BoxingScene’s Mark Vester on Tuesday, De La Hoya stated to Broadcasting Cable that boxing, in essence, needs a new business model. Boxing has “to think outside the box; we have to think like the NBA and MLB and have one commission and one major promoter in the sport," De La Hoya said.

Who the one promoter should be is implied. In separate pieces by longtime boxing scribe Michael Marley, the interview with Broadcasting Cable drew a reaction from fellow promoter Gary Shaw, who in part compared the thinking to the way Mixed Martial Art’s “Ultimate Fighting Championship” does business, and a clarification from De La Hoya himself. Very interesting insight. Hopefully Delahoya would read this and understand that he can not monopolized the boxing industry. MMA is not UFC alone, there is Pride and some other organization.

There was Pride, until the UFC bought it out in order to kill it.

There are several other promoters though. UFC tries to monopolize the industry, which is horrible. The worst part is all the UFC propaganda which comes out of it.

Ummm, this article starts off decent and then goes off about how boxing can't be a league sport. That kinda misses the poitn that DLH was making when he was saying there should be one governing body and one belt for each weight class.

DLH never said it should be a league sport.

Boxing is way too corrupt to be under one governing body. Just won't happen and quite frankly it isn't like other sports like the nba, nfl, mlb etc.

The sport itself presents too many variables to be ran on a schedule like that. Some things they can do right now are to:

Have one belt for each weight class.

Have an up to date and more stringent drug testing policy for all states that is followed by all states.

Penalize these corrupt judges severely to the point they lose their jobs and can't get them back.

Have a unified set of rules in place for weight penalties, weight and brand of gloves used for each division (e.g the nba only uses spaulding, you don't see every team using a different brand basketball to suit their teams for their home games).

Universal ring size for all fights.

Catchweights are only for non title fights, can't be for the title fights. Either fight at the weight limit or don't fight for the belt etc.

There are some more feasible ones that can implemented easily without one governing body right now. The they ccan work towards that if they feel the need to, even though i don't think one governing body is necessarily needed.

this is exactly what is killing our sport, you better think twice Oscar, I remember a long time ago you said you wanted to start Golden Boy Promotions to help the fighters coming up who were used and abused like you were and victims to the politics in Boxing, don't become part of that same problem Oscar, it already seemed kind of shady some of the things y'all did these past few years but a UFC business set up in Boxing? don't kill our sport with that monopoly the way Top Rank seems to doing

Oscar & Golden Boy Promotions ("Oscar/GBP") are a corrupt organization run by Tyrant-Oscar.

                  Oscar/GBP staged FIXED FIGHTS involving:

                  Oscar v. Felix Sturm,
                  Oscar v Pacquiao,
                  Pac v Clottey,
                  Pac v Margarito,

Oscar/GBP was behind Shane Mosley’s illegal use of EPO Steroids/Hormones before the Margarito-Mosley fight, and covered-up for Mosley, because Oscar/GBP knew well in advance that Mosley was “juiced-up” with EPO Steroids/Hormones before the Margarito fight.

Originally the Margarito-Mosley fight was supposed to take place in Nevada, but Oscar/GBP had it moved to California to help their fighter and business partner, Shane Mosley avoid detection of the blood doping agent-EPO Steroids

When Margarito and Mosley were scheduled to fight in Vegas,,,, about 7 weeks before the fight, a Federal Judge (out of concern for Margarito's well-being) released Mosley's EPO blood doping calendar to the public, that showed how Mosley injects EPO through his stomach, and on which days.

When Mosley's EPO usage calendar was released (about early December 2008), Nevada boxing commissioner-Keith Kizer warned Mosley that he would be blood tested for the illegal/banned stamina booster-EPO, before fighting Margarito.

When Mosley was warned by the Nevada Commission, he was worried he would get caught with EPO, so he had his buddies (Oscar & Richard Shaeffer) move the fight from Nevada to California (LA's STAPLES CENTER), cause Mosley knew that california only does post fight urine tests, which will NOT detect EPO.

Margarito's promoter (Bob Arum) knew that Mosley was pulling this sleazy stunt, but cared less, cause he was gonna profit from a, then, proposed Mayweather Jr vs Mosley fight (which took place on May 2010), cause he agreed with Oscar, to conspire, this dirty ploy.

That''s why the California boxing commission officials allowed Margarito to try to use plaster inserts, cause they all knew that Mosley was "juiced-up" with EPO, and was not gonna get caught, and Margarito was being "backstabbed" by his very own promoter.

Margarito doesnt say anything, cause Mosley, through GBP, had filed a federal lawsuit against Conte, so that he can place a GAG order on anyone that makes public staments.
thats why Margarito us being silence, just like Floyd is being silent about Pac's steroid uses.

Oscar was also behind the cover-up of Hopkins' EPO Steroid uses, before Hops fought Kelly Pavlik, which is why Hopkins got away with cheating, in avoiding detection of EPO prior to fighting Pavlik.

Oscar had also “backstabbed” his own fighters like Barrera (which is why Barrera left Oscar/GBP to go with Top Rank, then he “backstabs” Marquez, and now he was “backstabbing” Floyd, which is why Floyd sought Don Kings’ help.

As, you can see. Ocsar/GBP is a CORRUPT organization that cheats some of his own fighters, cheats the sport of boxing, and steals money from fans with FIXED FIGHTS.

Its no wonder the New York State Boxing Commission had placed a suspension on Ocsar/GBP, Because Oscar/GBP is a BIG CORRUPT Organization that wants to monopolize boxing.
(What I dont understand, is WHY DIDN'T ALL THE OTHER BOXING COMMISSIONS ABIDE BY NY'S SUSPENSION!!!
After all, Oscar PUSHED for all states to honor California's suspension of Margarito??)

Oscar is a corrupt TYRANT, that wants totalitarian control of boxing, so that he can MONOPOLIZE Boxing, in the greediest/corruptive way he could.

I hope Oscar goes out-of-business. It would benefit boxing alot.

Oscar couldn’t promote well at many other venues and has lost tons of money doing so. So now he twists thing around, then files a Federal Lawsuit, so that he can place a GAG order on anyone he doesn’t want to hear truthfull statements, that would derail his corrupt plans.

For the sake of boxing, Oscar should NEVER EVER be solely in charge boxing.
Oscar is, what former California Governor-Gray Davis was,......a friendly/soft-spoken CROOK!
