Below are quick quotes from today’s teleconference featuring Zab Judah and Lucas Matthysse. They fight November 6th at Newark, New Jersey’s Prudential Center.
Lucas Matthysse: I’m very excited about this opportunity – it’s the most important fight of my career and the biggest name that I’ve faced. The fact that the winner becomes the mandatory for the IBF title does not change anything for me because I was already so hungry to reach the top. Zab is a very talented fighter with a great record. I am sparring with many southpaws to prepare for him. I know that I have few rounds because I won many fights by early round knockout, but I’m preparing hard and putting in many rounds in the gym. I am prepared to go the full 12 rounds if the knockout doesn’t present itself.
Zab Judah: Life is about growing up. As you get older, you mature. At this point of my life, I’m doing everything by the book, I’m doing everything I was asked to do in the past and I’m walking the right path in my life. I’ve pretty much seen it all. Matthysse is a good young fighter: he has good hand speed, he possesses great power and he’s very aggressive. He may have knocked out a lot of fighters, he may have looked good against lower level opposition, but this time he’s fighting Super Zab Judah. This is my weight class, I didn’t get beat out of this division, I bowed out of it when I vacated my 140lb WBO title. I left this weight class a champion, and I’ll come back a champion. It is a matter of time until I get one of the titles or all of the titles. I’ve done it before and I’ll do it again, sometimes I get greedy and want all the titles.
