Looks like a newly-crowned Scottish WBO super featherweight champion Ricky Burns (29-2, 7 KOs) will have a soft first threat for his regalia. According to several Polish sources, Burns, who has recently come out as winner of a memorable war with previously undefeated titlist Roman “Rocky” Martinez on September 4, faces aging Polish lightweight Maciej “Matt” Zegan (42-6-2, 21 KOs) three months after on Dec. 4 in London as a part of a huge tournament, pre-planned by British top promoter Frank Warren. The fight will reportedly be Burns’ initial title defense; Zegan being presently ranked #3 by the WBO at lightweight limit.

Somebody should do a legal investigation into Zegans "draw" with novice Boris Berg this weekend.

Berg got the victory, and then two days later the small German federation GBA found a "scoring error" in the referees scorecard, and at the same time they dismissed the scoring of the two ringside judges.

A defeat (as it probably was) would have cost Zegan this fight. It is certainly not far fetched to suppose that this was the reason why they found this "scoring error".

Anyway, it is outrageous that Burns will now defend his title against a man who twice this year was awarded "draws" against small hall journeymen at small hall shows in Berlin (against Jonny Ibramov and Berg).

I don't know how they are going to sell this to the British fans?

In a sport that regularly makes a fool out of itself, this would top everything. A lightweight/junior welterweight who has been washed up for years loses to a 3-0 fighter (or draws, whatever) and is immediately awarded a title shot in a division he doesn't even fight in. In fact, I'm not sure he ever fought at junior lightweight.
This fight would make Erdei blush. Burns should be too ashamed to get into the ring for this fight unless it's a non-title affair
