Alot of people are blasting the IBF over the possibility of them stripping Devon Alexander. If you take a step back for a second, you can see why the IBF is doing the right thing......
First of all, IBF rules dictate that you must defend your title every 9 months agasint the mandatory challenger, and exceptions can be made for unification bouts. You know and accept this when that belt is put around your waist.
Secondly, the IBF would have allowed an exception for Alexander to fight Bradley, but that fight isnt made. Technically, its nothing more than a possibility at this point. If it was made, then Devon would have been allowed to unify.
Thirdly, Mabuza knocked out Kendall Holt to get the #1 spot in the IBF rankings. The SAME Kendall Holt that put Bradley on the floor TWICE. He has earned his shot at the title.
and lastly, Devon would never have defended against Mabuza anyways. There was a mandatory rematch clause in the negotiations for the Bradley fight, and does anyone really think for 1 second that if somehow Devon beat Bradley twice that then he's going to turn around then and do a Mabuza fight? PLEASE. He'd be in the Pac, Floyd, Cotto, or "whoever made him the most money" hunt. So the IBF having to strip him at some point was going to be inevitable anyways.
And here's the rub. Everyone complains all the time about sanctioning bodies being nothing but whores who only want money and blah blah blah. Here, the IBF certainly could have sat quiet and did nothing, and if Bradley-Alexander gets made then the IBF would have made some nice coin. But insted they choose principle over money, and they get blasted for it?????
And people wonder why the other organizations just do whatever they want and dont care what people think.............
