Remembering: Robin Reid vs. Sven Ottke (Includes Fight)

    REMOVED[/URL]

This thread, brought to you by The Anorak in association with The Elveil Lounge, is pleased to present the Robin Reid Super Middleweight title bout with Sven Ottke from December 2003.

I know what you're thinking - this should be in the fight downloads section, but I thought I'd start a thread on it so we can discuss it too. I also thought this might be of wider interest to those who haven't seen Reid fight before and want an idea of the man before the Lacy bout on Saturday night.

Reid's a likeable character, I think I possibly saw him a few years back when I was going to a couple of local shows and he was against Julio Cesar Vasquez, though there were a lot of new faces to me on the bills I saw and I can't remember for sure.

What I definitely saw was this fight - by far and away the most crooked bout you'll EVER see. Robin admitted in a recent interview that he was too scared to even hit Ottke in the last four rounds as the ref was looking for any excuse to disqualify him. Yet Robin believed he won at least seven of the first eight and scored what SHOULD have been counted as a KD, so won the fight anyway. I agree, but the German judges didn't.

One thing that isn't on this file is Reid's astonishingly good humoured post-bout interview where he laughed and joked that he wouldn't be able to win a decision against Ottke "even if my mum and my two best mates were doing the scoring". How any fighter can have the guts to smile and joke when they've just been shamefully ripped off is nothing short of commendable.

SO... watch the fight. Discuss it. Say what you think of Reid, his chances of beating Lacy on Saturday night. In an astounding fight you'll....

THRILL! To Ottke continually pretending to be hit low to get the ref to intervene, even though Reid's punches are nowhere near the beltline.

SPILL! To Reid being warned by the referee for ACTUALLY HITTING HIS OPPONENT. Read that again. And again. Let it sink in.

CHILL! To Reid's staggering powers of self-control as he holds it together despite being staggeringly pissed off.

This file will take about a day to download without flashGet, it will only take about an hour to download with flashGet, i know what i'd prefer.

Get FlashGet 1.65 from below link.

This is a must see fight, at one stage the ref warns Reid for punching

              O.K., remind me again...

why would I want to remember anything about Robin Reid. I appreciate you putting the fight on here though, because, I think I can speak for more than a few by saying we have scarcely saw this guy in the ring. Well, I guess its only right that we should remember him, considering, in my opinion, that NO ONE will remember him after Saturday night.

This fight was the biggest disgrace of corruption and greed I've ever seen in boxing.

I think it's better if we stop calling it a fight, and start calling it diabolical... The Germans would have done anything to stop Reid walking away with the belts that evening.

                I don't think we can call this a fight... It's a pantomime.

What's more worrying is that the German fans are all sat there cheering and clapping!

germany is the worst of all boxing countries.........and this fight would have to be one of the worst of the worsts.....this is an absolute shocker and i watched it live, and i nearly smashed the tv after the first couple rounds as it was SOOOOOO obvious....

Sven Ottke walks around the streets of germany as a hero............this is because the people are so dumb and brainwashed into thinking he won all of his fights.........

I respect Reid so much, and even in this fight with all the gods against him, he kept his cool.......if it were me, i probably would have KO'd the referee..
