By Dave Lahr: I never thought I’d see the day when Freddie Roach would come clean about his fighter Manny Pacquiao not being ready to face Floyd Mayweather Jr. Well, here it is straight from the horse’s mouth in an article by Ronnie Nathanielsz at inquirer.net: Roach says “I would like to see him [speaking about Pacquiao] get a couple of more fights, then get Mayweather Jr., and get out of there.” There it is, folks. Roach is admitting that Pacquiao isn’t ready to face Mayweather Jr.

Let me translate what Roach appears to be say – Pacquiao needs to fight some more guys, because he’s not ready for a boxing demon like Mayweather. Oh, this is really bad. Roach still doesn’t think his fighter is ready after all this time. Okay that explains everything about why we haven’t seen a fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao yet.

What Roach literally said was that he would like Pacquiao to fight a few more times, and then fight Mayweather as his last fight period. He said nothing about Pacquiao not being ready for Mayweather, that was all the author spouting BS. And it's reasonable to expect that he isn't going to fight Floyd due to Floyd's "vacation" until May at the earliest, so he can take possibly one more fight after Margarito, then try to get Floyd in the ring again.

Roach had said after the Cotto fight that Pacquiao would need time to prepare for Mayweather's style so that is the closest he's come to saying what the author fictionalized here. And after the Mayweather-Mosley fight, Roach said that Pacquiao would KO Floyd if they fought because Floyd doesn't have the legs anymore to fight Pac.

The reason Roach wants the Floyd fight to be the last is simply because Floyd will dominate Pacquiao and possibly knock him out.After the Floyd fight Manny will not be the same so he would rather just retire

Or he wants Pac to go out on his greatest win/payday since there won't really be anything left to prove after that and like Floyd, Pacquiao is not exactly a young man anymore in boxing. And Floyd isn't going to knock out Pac if they ever fight, if he wins, he'll win a decision. Floyd has shown repeatedly that he's not going to go the extra mile for the KO even in a minimal risk matchup a la JMM, he's certainly not going to take any chances with Pac.
