Why are there no decent American Heavyweights?

The USA used to be the home of the Heavyweight Champion. Now the last american champion of any note was Evander Holyfield. Born in 1962.

This commercial aired in 1962, the first of its kind:

I'm guessing Evander had proper meals and didn't like hanging with Ronald McDonald too much. Ronald has pretty much destroyed the diet of the American child with hi happy meals and ****** toys that make you think you're full when all you're getting are carbs padding out your stomach. then theres Hamburger Helper, poor school meals and all sorts of other rotten parts of the modern american diet.

We all know they don't do good burgers and I'm sure bad nutrition is the root of this lack of talent in the Heavyweight division.

A great heavyweight has to have a great diet from birth. Otherwise your just gonna grow up to be a scrawny 147lber...like Floyd.

The two last great HW that I saw was Ike Ibeabuchi and Wald post Sanders. Wald is now just a boring ass winning machine. I really think Wald should just go back to his old day and let his hands goes....considering how crappy the HW division is right now.

Eddie Chambers isn't bad, he's just too small to compete with the bigger boys. He got his ass whooped by Wlad, but there's no shame in losing to Wladimir.

Wlad has a bad chin...if he goes back to his old ways, he'll get KTFO. Not as exciting, but I can't hate on the guy for doing what he has to do to win.

Teddy Atlas talks about this a lot.

The answer is that the next American heavyweight champ is in the NFL or NBA right now.

American athletes have shifted away from boxing towards careers in sports that are much more lucrative and less physically damaging.

Think about it; Pretty much only the guys in the top 10-15 of each weight class are making millions right? I mean consistently, not one million dollar check thats mostly gone before they get it.

How many guys are in the NFL? The NBA? Not to mention even Baseball. Theyre all making good livings, and thyre set up for multiple years each time their contracts are renewed. Boxers never know when their next meal is.

          Sad but true.

I agree and think he has elite skills but is just too small for this era, in a past era he may have done much better.

It's good that he's winning but I'm not excited to see his next fight anymore and I'm sure there's many peoples that feel the same way way I do. Bad chin or not, he needs to start destroying his opponent like the old day. People want to see an exciting fight, not a boring fest.

That really is how many of the professional athletes think when they are young how when they become professionals how much money they will have and most of these kids come from the ****** and use their sport as a vehicle to get out of the ******.

All of the best American heavyweights have been destroyed by Eastern Europeans. The same thing is happening in other weight classes too.

Soviets weren't allowed to turn pro until the 1990s because of the cold war.

Now Soviets are allowed to turn pro and we're already taking over boxing.

This is just the beginning of the Eastern European domination.

                    The NFL/NBA excuse is weak.

There are tons of potential Eastern European Heavyweight Boxers who are doing Combat Sambo, MMA, Kickboxing, Hockey, Olympic Wrestling, Olympic Weightlifting, Powerlifting, Worlds Strongest Man Competitions, etc.

America isn't the only country on the planet that has other sports.
