By Jake Donovan - Ramon Garcia is developing a flair for the dramatic.
Two months after scoring a major upset in a narrow points win over Johnny Casimero, the Mexican southpaw barely outlasted countryman Manuel Vargas, as he was forced to brawl his way to a split decision win on Saturday evening at El Foro in Tijuana, Mexico.
Scores were 115-113 (twice) and 114-114, though initially announced in favor of Vargas before being corrected moments later.
Action was slow to get going, with Garcia taking a tactical approach in the early going before picking things up in the second and fought at a furious pace from that point onward.
The two exchanged power shots in an active third round that saw Vargas close the gap and get the inside fight he desired. Garcia certainly held his own, planting his feet and driving his straight left at an onrushing Vargas.
Non-stop action ensured in the fourth, much to the delight of the intimate yet vocal crowd on hand. Vargas enjoyed an early rally, but was warned midway through the round for pushing down on the back of Garcia’s neck. [Click Here To Read More]
