Guzman, is one of the best fighters in the world "pound for pound", like him or not. This sounds like a great show in front of his people and the co-feature with Salvador Sanchez ll on Telefutura tells me "Golden Boy" sees the potential this kid has to be a future superstar.Comment

A fight with Fernandez will be great? Fernandez's last 12 fights: 7 LOSSES, 1 DRAW, and only 4 wins. His 4 wins came from fighters with losing records. He has lost his last 3 fights, his last one by KO, and the previous two by UD in 8 rounder fights! That's the kind of fighter left for Guzman to fight?Last edited by Georgeshills; 09-25-2010, 11:10 PM.Comment

its not up to him his management put him in there. and he ****ed up with his weight on like 3 ocasions so why would they and another fighters promoter take a chance and make a fight. guzman has to work his way up its not about his skills he ****ed up and his team ****ed up and have to work his way up. and as he work his way up the ranks and prove he making weight and doing good. networks will pick him up again and he will get big fights. but its not all up to him. why do you guys still think guys pick their own fights?when you are a boxer at the top of your game, there is no need for a tune up fight. When you are a boxer like Guzman with all his problems, getting a fight with someone with 10 losses shows how low he has sunk at this stage of his boxing career. He doesnt deserve any big fights, as he reneged on his previous "big" fights, either he didnt show up, or showed up overweight. Whatever the excuse of his health condition causing him to miss weight is not enough reason to come in overweight for a fight. In between fights he is well known to bloat a lot and when a contract arrives, he struggles to bring down his weight fast enough to the fight limit. That shows a lack of discipline. And because of that, he is rewarded with a so called tune up fight. IMO, this fight isn't a tune up fight, its a fight where he has no other choice.Comment

Is impossible to do that, when the best prefer dodge ... literally, Pacquiao signed a contract to fight Guzman in 2007, then escaped with a clause that allowed it and easily beat Barrera in the second fight. JM Marquez, declined twice to fight Guzman, the last time was when he fell the fight against Barrios and his team, declined to Guzman as a subsitute. Barreras, never wanna face Guzman at 126, Scott Harrison (Well, that story is well known). Even with all these running. He has faced very good fighters such as, Jauregui, Barrios, Sanchez and Terdsak Kokietgym (who all were afraid at that time)
Dude, you can say what you want about Guzman and you may be right, but this is not true. Joan Guzman always sought out the best in his weight but for some reason (Guzman's style), they have always avoided.Comment

his promoter/manager has a say in who guzman fights, but his promoter and/or manager has nothing to do with guzman failing to make weight for his past fights! That's all guzman. You give Guzman too much credit that he can work his way up. He has wasted his career by not controlling himself with his weight and now at 34, has to work his way up the ranks again? He will be lucky to get a good paying fight after his debacles.its not up to him his management put him in there. and he ****ed up with his weight on like 3 ocasions so why would they and another fighters promoter take a chance and make a fight. guzman has to work his way up its not about his skills he ****ed up and his team ****ed up and have to work his way up. and as he work his way up the ranks and prove he making weight and doing good. networks will pick him up again and he will get big fights. but its not all up to him. why do you guys still think guys pick their own fights?Comment

The comeback fight of former junior featherweight and junior lightweight titlist Joan Guzman (30-0-1, 17 KOs), who planned to return as a junior welterweight after well-documented problems making lightweight, is off. Guzman was supposed to face Chris Fernandez on a Telefutura card Nov. 5 in New York. However, Golden Boy pulled the plug on the show because the investor it had lined up to bankroll the show didn't come up with the money by the deadline. Instead, Golden Boy said it is moving the show to Puerto Rico, where junior welterweight Jose Cotto is slated to headline.Comment
