Comments Thread For: Chavez: I Have No Contract, I Want To Stay With Top Rank

On Friday, BoxingScene.com featured two articles regarding the promotional status of undefeated middleweight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. In the first article, Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya said Chavez recently told the Mexican press that he was a free agent because his promotional contract had run out with Top Rank and Fernando Beltran of Zanfer Promotions. De La Hoya expressed his interest in speaking with Chavez about the possibility of signing with Golden Boy, if Chavez was indeed a free agent.

I guess Bob Arum was lying yesterday but today Chavez jr is telling the truth.

@ arum calling de la hoya a moron, he's obviously annoyed GBP are trying to steal another fighter they invested heavily in

maybe if arum should lower his promotional fees

great move on chavez jr's part to get more money and a better contract out of top rank. i don't blame him for using King and De la hoya.but i don't like what arum has been doing for the last 3 years.

Unless Chavez Jr steps up his competition the only thing I see marketable right now for GBP is if he mathched him with Canelo, which I don't see happening yet.

So Top Rank should just keep his Latin Fury bum and keep matching him with the Alfonzo Gomez's of the sport...

I'll say this. The last time a Top Rank fighter claimed to be a free agent and jumped to Golden Boy was Victor Ortiz. Arum claimed he was still under contract. Ortiz claimed he was a free agent. Top Rank sued Golden Boy and won. Now Top Rank gets a percentage of the revenue in every Ortiz fight.

                    ...........

If he didn't have a contract with top rank how does Top Rank get a percentage of his earnings now that he is with GPB? doesn't make any sense
