The WBC belt's have become devalued

There's been alot of things recently that have damaged their reputation. The WBC belt was regarded as the best belt and possibly still is but they have lost credibility recently. For a variety of reasons...

    1. The Pacquiao-Margarito fight. I don't need to explain why this fight is a farce, everybody already knows that. But the fact that it's for the WBC belt just outlines my point. How on earth does Margarito deserve any kind of title shot? I just don't understand it. Why they would want to sanction this fight. It's also at a catchweight. When you allow your title to be contested at a catchweight for 2 fighters who havent beaten anyone at the weight you are basically insulting all the 154lber's who genuinly do deserve a title shot.

    2. The Williams-Martinez rematch. Also at a catchweight. It makes me laugh that people say Williams and Pacquiao are warriors etc yet they need catchweights to win fights. The WBC and/or Martinez should have told Williams to either fight at 160 or forget it. Sometime I think this is why Floyd won't ever fight Pacquiao, he doesnt want to agree to Pacquiao and Roach's catchweight/cut off demands. Because unlike Margarito, Cotto, Clottey and Hatton. He doesnt need the money......or the fight.

    3. The Andre Ward vs Andre Dirrell fight will also be for the WBC SMW title after Kessler vacated due to injury. What has either fighter done to deserve this? I can see the sense in it but why not have it on the line for Abraham and Froch and just kick Allen Green out of the tournament? At least then the final would be a unification bout. The way it's going I can't help but feel whoever is dictating this whole thing is in Ward's pocket.

It's a shame. The WBC used to have alot of prestige about them.

    Not anymore...

It has been devalued though. Most of them have really. But in particular the WBC one. Rather than have structured, fair ratings that decide who should fight for a vacant belt. They are sanctioning a fight with two guys. One who has never fought at the weight before. And another one who was banned from boxing for loading his gloves and who hasnt beaten a notable opponents in more than 26 months.

I even heard that he is ranked #1 by the WBC. How is that even possible? If it is true then whoever does these rankings is an idiot. There are several guys who are far more deserving of a title shot. Vanes Martisoryan, Alfredo Angulo, Erislandy Lara and Ryan Rhodes to name a few.

It's just ridiculous. The fight between Pacquiao and Margarito is basically an insult to everyone involved in boxing and everyone who likes the sport.

Yeah, but my main point related to Pacquiao-Margarito. It's just an absolute joke how that fight has been allowed to happen. At a catchweight also. It doesnt suprise me that Pacquiao is involved but the WBC should say no and then fights like that wouldnt be allowed to happen. If he beats Margarito, he would have won 2 belts at catchweights against opponents who were KO'd 2-3 fighters earlier.

When Pacquiao retires he will say "I won 8 world titles in different divisions" and people say he is an ATG because of it but if you look and examine how he has done it all...

Belt 1 - WBC Flyweight title won with an 8th round TKO against Chatcahi Sasakul which was a good win even though he was being badly outboxed before the KO.

Belt 2 - IBF Super Bantamweight title won by a 6th round TKO against Lehlohonolo Ledwaba. (Good win)

Belt 3 - "Won" by split decision against Juan Manuel Marquez in a fight that several people (including Pacquiao fan club member and Boxingscene writer Ronnie Nathaniesz) admit that he really lost. (Tainted win)

Belt 4 - WBC Lightweight title won against David Diaz. Good win but not against the best fighter in the weight class. Joel Casamayor and Juan Diaz were regarded as the best Lightweights but still (Good win)

Belt 5 - IBO LWW title won against Ricky Hatton. I'm not even sure whether it's a real world title. Certainly not a major one. Hatton was KO'd 3 fights prior. (Tainted win)

Belt 6 - WBO Welterweight title won against Miguel Cotto. Cotto was brutally KO'd by Margarito who was then KO'd by Mosley a few fights prior. This made Mosley the best welterweight not Cotto. He won the WBO paper belt against Jennings and defended it against Pacquiao at a catchweight. (Tainted win)

You notice how I only included 6 belts and they say he has won seven? Well that "7th title" was The Ring Featherweight title which is not a real world title. To be a world title it must have a sanctioning body and the Ring don't have one. So the "7th title" thing is just a myth really.

It sounds good but when you look at it and actually examine how he has "won" all these belts. It's not that impressive.

a belt can only have value when its earned by beating the best and then become champion then the person who beats you become champion because they beat the best. the belt only symbolizes your accomplishments so that you are reconized as champion. but its actually dont mean nothing. so winning a vacent belt aganst someone who wasnt champion in first place even if you have the belt you are not a champion in my eyes. you jsut have a very big piece of ***lry around ya waist

I agree. It really bugs me why people blast Floyd for "not fighting the best" when unlike Pacquiao, he actually moved up and beat the official WBC champion, at the proper weight class when they were coming off good wins. Check it out. He did this at 130, 135, 140, 147 and 154. None of the belts were vacant. He beat the reigning champ each time.

Yet people say he doesnt fight the best and they say that Pacquiao does. It couldnt be further from the truth. Floyd deserves more respect for what he's done. I believe Pacquiao gets more credit because of his fake image and fighting style. But I think Floyd has beaten much better opposition.
