-Baldomir was a former lineal champ, who went the distance with Mayweather and Vernon Forrest
-Luciano Cuello gave Chavez Jr a vey tough fight(Alvarez dominated him)
-Jose Cotto has fought for a title twice
-Lanardo Tyner upset another prospect, Antwone Smith, fairly recently
-Jeferson Goncalo has gone the distance with top 10 Middleweights like Khoren Gevor and Hassan N'Jikam, while Alvarez knocked him out in the 9th(as a teenager)
-Michael Rosales is rated #33 in the world by boxrec
-Euri Gonzalez upset former title challenger Cosme Rivera about a year ago
-Raul Pinzon was beating former WBO 140lb titleholder Ricardo Torress and dropped him 3 times before getting KOed in the last round
-Miguel Vasquez is the current IBF Lightweight champion
Im not saying Alvarez's record is amazing, but its much better than people make it out to be with wins like the above. especially considering hes just turned 20.
And say what you want about Baldomir being old, but I seriously doubt most people expected Alvarez to turn his lights out and make him plop onto the canvas face first after one big shot. maybe a tko ref stoppage or corner stoppage or something, but not that...
What people fail to realise is that Alvarez had little or no amateur career and has been fighting since he was about 15. Some fighters have to do that, because they actually need money and dont have the luxury of an amateur career.
Hes not simply 'building his record', hes still learning. the guys hes been facing arent the most well known, but theyre actually under the radar good fighters. Hes slowly being exposed to different styles and increasing levels of skill, which is what you WANT from a young prospect...not like many prospects nowadays, who get fed real tomato cans and easily knock them out, and then have no idea what to do when they step up in class.
So lighten up about his opposition: its not nearly as bad as yall make it out to be sometimes. in reality hes actually being pushed into high fights too early, thats a real danger.
Give him a year, and then well talk. hes improving drastically from fight to fight, if you ask me.
