shane mosley's father coined his style of fighting "power-boxing", not larry merchant.

whether or not mosley had a good jab is a matter of opinion, truthfully. winky wright had/ has a good jab, pernell whitaker had a good jab and muhammad ali had a good jab...their jabs were not the same nor used in the same manner. wright's jab is best describe as a power jab, whitaker's was more fundamental and was used to set up other shots while muhammad's was a safe jab that kept his opponent almost completely off-balance as he danced around them looking for openings for that right hand. that said, you shouldn't be able to find anyone that would say they don't have good jabs.

i say that to say that mosley's jab has always been for distraction and/ or to set up that big overhand right hand. the fights that immediately jump out at me are the shannon taylor and floyd mayweather jr. fights. a solid jab to the body with a heavy right hand up top. it put shannon taylor all over the place and hurt floyd.

there are jabs that hurt, that blind, that distract, that control, that aid determination of distance and that set up other shots. most fights, no, mosley's jab was used as too much of a distraction to the point where he ended up just jumping in with power shots. other fights, he used it to set up damaging blows, to maintain/ determine distance and to blind opponents for those body shots he used to be famous for.

that "power-boxing" crap is over though. it may not appear that he's lost much with age but, for one, his fundamentals are going to heck. even with great hand-speed, leading with your face and your punch coming later cripples your punching ability.

Actually Shane Mosley did possess a good jab when he first began. Watch the Mosley vs Holiday for an example. And I have to agree with another poster that Pacquiao does not possess a one punch ko power.
