    Height Restrictions In Weight Limits

I thought this one up last night. Should they put height limits on fighters like lets say at WW 147 lb you cannot be over 5'11 and at SWW 154 lb you cannot be over 6'2. This will stop the freaks like Paul Williams from trying to beat fighter with his huge reach advantage. Whatcha think guys??

i think you are a complete moron.

how about punching power restrictions? ppl who hit hard have to wear extra padded gloves. along with chin restrictions ofcourse, those who cant take a punch get extra padding around their jaw.

i mean that makes it more fair for everybody, right? ohh and heavier gloves/shoes for ppl with good hand and/or footspeed ofcourse.

apparently physical advantages should be taken away. i mean if being physicly gifted with height should be against the rules why shouldnt other physical advantages be against the rules? height works both ways, a tall fighter dont take as good a bodyshot, doesnt have as good stamina (most of the time) and isnt as good on the inside (most of the time). there are no flaws with handspeed, having that advantage is way more unfair.

and whats up with age? maybe younger fighters should be forced to run on a treadmill between rounds when they fight older oponents to make up for the disadvantage.

you really given me alot to think about, you clearly understand the sweet science based on this brilliant thread. why are you wasting your gifts here? u could make some good money training pacquiao, roach aint got **** on you son.

It is weight limits that work.

2 men at 6foot may have a completely different frame. One could be a middleweight the other a heavyweight. Completely ****** to put them in the ring together.

It would take all the fun out of the sport. Styles makes fights, If all fights where between guys who where the same height then it would be pretty boring IMO.

the best and most fairest of them all:
          - just have the weigh-in on the afternoon of the fight and neither fighter can weigh over the max limit, like da good ol days

            No way
Taller fighter have to struggle to make the weight, if they can make it then its their advantage to be tall.

Weight limits were put in place to restrict size discrepancies. So no, there's no need for another limit.
When a tall guy can make low weight he's giving up some power and punch resistance to the body. A guy who's much taller and has a longer reach is obviously at an advantage in boxing since those are extremely valuable assets to have, but there's little sense in having a height limit. If you're too short for your division, loose some weight and go down a division, or better yet, be wise and don't fight the tallest guy in your division if you don't think you can land meaningful shots on him because of the reach and height difference.

Every fight you go into you either give up advantages and/or have them. Virtually no fight can be completely even. Weight limit is enough. If you think a guy's too tall for you go find someone else to fight.

Most people give height an advantage because it's "what they see". There is much more than height into a fighter.

                Bone density?

                Fast twitch muscle fibers?

Muscle cells with weird action potential that lets them contract harder, therefore the fighter is stronger?

How about giving them psychiatric evaluations and prohibiting fighters that just won't quit a chance to win the fight in the later rounds.

How about a few more while we're at it. Lung capacity, experience, nutrition, punching technique, blocking technique, training elevation, flexibility, red blood cell count, Facial hair, dead weight disadvantages eg. bigger third leg & balls etc.
