    Bernard Hopkins..

I don't hate Bernard....but this is what I think of him...

When I saw Oscar De La Hoya step up in weight and fight the biggest challenge of his career by fighting a tough game Bernard Hopkins, I just said to myself, "I don't remember Hopkins ever doing that."

He never stepped up the way DeLaHoya did and Sugar Ray Leonard and go in a fight as the underdog...

Just my opinion...so don't bash me please..

Good point Greatest, I often wondered the same thing. Maybe if he gets the title back from Taylor we will see Bernard taking on a bigger opponent maybe in Antonio Tarver or even RJJ. He would be the underdog in both. We will just have to wait and see. I ole' Hop's is using Haglers receipe and just staying put and mastering his weight class.

I agree with the UKers on this one..he should fight Joe Calzaghe.

Many moons ago I made a post saying the same thing and I got death threats...even if you are a Hopkins lover you do have to concede that the guy never dared to take huge risk like Tito did, like Leonard did, like Oscar did etc.

Hopkins is a great fighter no doubt but he is not a legend in my mind, a legend, Ill reserve that term for a very select few. Bernard should wake up every day and thank god for making fighters like Tito Trinidad and Oscar Delahoya, without these two Hopkins bank account is still small and his legacy pails in comparison...If it werent for these two guys we would be looking at all of Bernard's title defenses trying to decipher which victory was his crowning achievement...

After sorting thru his fights we would say that Bernard Hopkins the all time middlewight record holder for defenses best victory came against Antwun Echols or some **** like that...Hopkins is certainly great but a legend...not in my mind.

The thing is people like to knock Hopkins for not moving up, but what they dont understand is that there was no one for him to move up and fight.

Who was up at 168? Calzaghe and Ottke never had the sack to come out of Europe so they were worthless. Hell how many fights has Joe pulled out of?

Roy was up at 175, but both there ego's where just so huge they could never get it right at the table. Botyh are equally to blame for that fight not happening.

Not that Im defending Calzaghe but Im curious what major fight did Joe pull out of?

When Nard and Roy were negotiating wasnt the deal a 60-40 split and NArd refused...why would he refuse a 60-40 split...1)Roy was basically the only man to ever beat him and 2) Roy was the draw...what would give Nard any right to ask for anywhere near equal money?

                    Thankyou, Jose.

People praise Hagler and he's just as guilty as Bernard Hopkins. He never moved up in weight. Moving up in weight is not mandatory for greatness. Props to those who do it, but it's not neccessary.
