Joshua Clottey to move to middlweight by the end of the year

Former IBF welterweight champion, Joshua Clottey plans to move up from the welterweight division to middleweight before the end of the year.
His decision comes months after compatriot Joseph Agbeko announced a move to the super bantamweight division.

This trend is very regular in the welterweight division as the likes of Miguel Cotto and Manny Pacquiao who defeated Joshua in his last two fights have all moved up in weight.

Joshua also follows the footsteps of former welterweight champion, Ike Bazooka Quartey who also moved to the middleweight division where he fought former champion Ronald Winky Wright in his last fight in 2006.
Joshua tells Joy Sports Nathaniel Attoh he has done enough in the welterweight division. His trainer Alloway, says the move will be a gradual process.

“I think it will help him because he is a human being. You just can’t deceive nature. He is growing.
“…His knock out ratio is getting down because that tells you that if he sheds a lot of weight before making the weight there is no power behind his punches.”

The man rehydrated 20 pounds in what was his biggest fight up until then... That was 4 years ago.

He lasted long enough at welterweight, but why not make the move to 154?

He could've really beat the brakes off of Berto if he would've got a shot at him. Anyway, hopefully the move makes him move his hands more.

straight to the middleweight division...just so I'm not misunderstanding this, he's going to completely skip the junior middleweight division....sounds kinda silly...but then again, I guess he's already used to that weight, so....
I wonder who he's fighting...especially before the end of the year....

Doubt he'll be on HBO or Showtime unless they plan to feed him to someone that will surely beat him.

Didn't Agbeko just enter a 118 lb tournament?
