No, Leonard entertained the idea of juming two weight classes to fight Hagler but suffered a detatched retma and retired. He made a comeback later and didn't look so good against Kevin Howard. He retired again and then finaly decided to take a chance against Hagler after a couple years of retirement. Hagler was a big bad middleweight. Comparing Leonard to Mayweather avoiding a lighter fighter just doesn't fit.

Some would say Leonard didn't want any for a long time...until he saw Hagler take a step back...

And he didn't give Hearns a rematch until they were both washed up...

          Depending on who you ask...

Hagler said he thinks its the same situation because it took forever to make the fight &
leonard made demands( eventhough pac&floyd both are making demands), also he said he idenfies with pac and leonard with mayweather, he said all this on the radio show On the Ropes Boxing

Leonard waited until he saw slippage in Hagler..what he saw was the war he had with Mugabi and jumped on him...it's also documented that Hagler came to the grand opening of Leonard's restaurant in baltimore and they got loaded and Hagler confided in Ray that he was not hungry anymore and was cutting easy..

The highlight of that rivalry was when Leonard made the press conference.imagine if either floyd or pac does that
