Danny Williams: "I REALLY want to knock him out".

Danny Williams spoke to Boxing News this week about pulling out of the Matt Skelton fight... a fight that would have introduced him to a prime-time terrestial TV audience (Okay, I know he's been on BBC at sort-of prime time, but no one watched boxing on the BBC, did they? And certainly not at 9pm) and, if victorious, a shot at John Ruiz. Yet he pulled out with less than 24 hours' notice, screwing it up.

As a result, Skelton called him a "yellow back." Williams - a man who's hero is Rocky Marciano, and was still begging Jay Nady to let him carry on after over seven rounds of a one-sided kicking from Vitali Klitschko - says he's only even been as "up" for a fight as when Herbie Hide was calling him out a few years back.

Apparently Williams WAS ill, but wanted to go ahead for all the right reasons... his family called him out at the last minute. After hearing what Skelton had been saying, Danny is prepared to give Frank Warren his own money as a retainer just to get a chance at knocking Skelton out in a rescheduled meeting in September.

Skelton looked below mediocre in his last showing, and has been in trouble - Bob Mirovic had one of his eyes closed before pulling out. Matt - arguably the least-skilled heavyweight out there today - is slow and ponderous, and uses bullying tactics in place of genuine skill. Now Danny has taken a personal grudge against him, I can't wait for September if it comes off.

It will be a mis-match, it always would of been and would be.
Williams to win inside three rounds.

Problem is, you can't say that in ANY Danny Williams bout... he's the guy with the ****ed-up head. Plus, I reckon Skelton's chin could hold up, and Danny might get perplexed by his rough-housing.

I'd still bet on Danny, though.

I like watching Williams fight, he's either great or terrible, he's KOing someone or getting KO'd. Nothing suprises me anymore.

To be fair, it should be pointed out that Danny has only ever been TKOed. Once when going through one of his "mental meltdown" phases (and later revealing he had shingles) against Sinal Sam (a man he should have beat) and once against Klitschko, which is no great shame. He's never been laid out in the ring.

good point, but I guess that means you like watching Wladimir Klitschko fight as well? even though Wladimir hasn't looked great in YEARS

It's funny because when it comes down to it, Wlad and Danny are just alike in that they win by KO or get KO'ed, and the fights are always entertaining. THE ONLY REASON I am a fan of one and not the other is that one of them makes excuses when he loses while the other faces them like a man. One of them settles things in a ring while the other prefers the courtroom.

Well it’s a bit late Danny... You kinda let us all down a couple of weeks ago by pulling out with 12hrs notice.

Fighters that pull out with 12hrs notice are on to something "iffy" ... They would have known well in advance.

I don't buy the coincidence thing... It happens too often! A fighter after 8 weeks preparation in perfect physical state, all of a sudden gets struck down by flu???

How many times has Scott Harrison blamed "Flu" for his poor performances?

I say BULL****!... You pulled out because you had serious doubts about winning the fight.

Of course, I live in Louisville, KY, and became a fan when he stopped Tyson. The atmosphere for that fight was insane. I loved every minute of it and bought a shirt. Williams is a class act and I rooted for him against Vitali. I wanna see him bust Skelton up ASAP
