I have just listened to a very frank radio interview, on Talk Sport, in the UK with Ray Hatton, Ricky's father about how his son was close to giving up the fight game last year due to the politics of boxing.
Apparently for 4 weeks he considered his options last year with a view to abbandonning the sport as a result of being unable to get the fights he wanted. Ray went on to say that, suprising as it may be to the majority of fight fans out there unless you are the likes of Bernard Hopkins or Oscar De La Hoya you have little to no control over who you fight.
Ricky became disalisioned with people saying he was ducking opponents etc. I found it an interesting insight into the frustrations of pro boxing.
