Did Jermain Taylor's style change at some point

    in his pro career?

I wasn't around when he was beating Bernard Hopkins in 2005... in fact, the first current Taylor fight I watched was against Cory Spinks, and he was a flat footed guy, who stood in front of his opponent without a lot of power or a good work rate.

I know he was touted to be something special in the sport, but I fail to see what people saw in him when he was coming up that was going to make him such a force in the sport.

Taylor hand a powerful jab, decent speed, and a pretty good right hand
    thats all
    he was never spectacular
he came up when MW was dead and Bernard eclipsed everyone
he was hyped strongly due to youth and Olympic medal
his style never changed, even when Steward tried to change it

I dont think he had anything special other than great determination and well rounded skills + athletecism. His wins over Hopkins where basically he outworked him in very determined close fashion, he never really had a spectacular win.

      Winky I felt beat him.

He wasnt all that exciting a MW champ when you look back.

Am I letting my mind be changed by the words of others, or was Taylor a more effective fighter under Pat Burns than he was under Emanuel Steward?

I think they should try to get Pat Burns back when he decides to start fighting again... that team had some good chemistry.

he was the same the whole time
aggressive boxer puncher who worked behind a jab
Steward got him doing more bodywork, but thats it
he looked lesser with Steward because he was fighting elite fighters
a lot of them were southpaws with tough styles
Taylor's best attribute was his heart; he fought everyone
he was never close to being great though

TBH, i never took him seriously until he beat hopkins. i really thought he was a hype job - and then he beat hopkins. i figured hopkins had an off night and then jermain beat him AGAIN. i had to start respecting him at that point. to jermains credit - i thought the second pavlik fight was a draw, and the first one was a serious wake up call. he clearly beat froch but blew it in the last round - much of the fault was his corner's for telling him he was down on the cards.

i don't think jermains style really changed. i think that he is a fabulous fighter - but was truly mentally hurt when pavlik put him out. i think jermain could beat pavlik if he made use of all of the abilities he has. he was never scared to take on the best.

i am a jermain fan, and i look forward to his comeback. i am so sad that his last 2 fights ended the way they did. i honestly thought that he would beat andre ward, because ward has no power - and i don't think ward is better than hopkins. most people tell me im an idiot for this prediction though.

He had a very nice jab when Pat Burns still trained him then he got rid of Burns...had probably the worst fight I've ever seen against Spinks, won a non impressive win over Kassim Ouma(although he hit Ouma with bombs and Kassim walked thru them), had a close entertaining fight with Winky, and then got finished by Pavlik...

I like Jermain but it seems like he lost something after he left Pat Burns...Emmanuel Steward did nothing of note for him...

On paper how could Jermain who is a good athlete lose to someone as ordinary as Pavlik? Guess that's why they have to fight tho...

I don't get what problems people have with the Ouma fight... that's the best he looked in all of his championship fights, minus the Froch fight until the devastating end.

The jab did seem to go away after Burns left... you are right. I think part of that might have had to do with Hopkins completely taking it away... I think Taylor has a mental complex where his confidence is very fragile when it comes to certain things.

He got worse when Stewart came on board.

The Spinks fight was ridiculously bad. This is a guy who's getting KTFO by Judah, going up to middleweight and almost beating JT.

Its funny, in terms of where they will be seen compared to their contemporaries JT and Judah will probably be seen in a similar light. But Judah did it by beating down the people not as good as him and losing to the best; while JT beat the best (BHop) and looked horrible or lost to the avg joes.

"It won't be hard beating Bernard, it'll be hard holding onto the titles as long as he did"
