        Their CHARACTER matters.

        I won't be a fan of a woman-beater like LaMotta or Mayweather.

It doesn't affect my view of their skills and enjoyment of them as athletes. A lot of my favorite fighters of all-time did some pretty terrible things outside the ring.

But obviously, I'd PREFER them to be decent people.

why not, especially among big names?

dont you thinks a rags to riches story of a boxer, drew alot of inspiration among wanna be boxers?

What they did outside the ring doesn't effect my opinion of them as boxers, sure some stories are truly inspirational and some boxers have done some pretty extraordinary things which I enjoy reading about, but it doesn't matter if what they did was good or bad I'll still be a fan just for what they did in the ring, e.g. if I didn't know about all the bad things that say Dwight Qawi or Carlos Monzon did I would still feel the same way about them as I do now and be fans of them.

It's good to know about a boxers history and past, but it doesn't matter, love them for what they do in the ring.
