Good test for Gamboa..Salido was trying to smother Gamboa & was actually smothering himself as well & at the same time Gamboa was trying to come in & land his shots, so the fight didn't look that good & Gamboa didn't seem to impress at all, but it's also hard to look good against a fighter who's coming in & fighting the way Salido was..& Gamboa wasn't hurt at all in this fight..Actually Salido was the 1 who got staggered a few times..I've seen Gamboa fight many times & even thou he's gone down a few times I've never really seen him hurt(wobbled or dazed) He's only suffered flash knockdowns...Gamboa's corner was giving him the right instructions, but most of the time he didn't seem to follow them & he's gotta stop that very bad habit of keeping his hands down & needs to move around more & put them boxing skills to work & eventually the KO will come on it's own..If Juanma get's past Marquez & the fight with Gamboa gets set, then that could be when Gamboa's chin will get checked..
First half decent opponent he faced and we learn a lot about how good Gamboa really can be but still isn't. Sorry Guys if he fights Juanma like this he is getting KTFO. Salido landed enuff good shots and doesn't even have power, had they been from Juanmas fist he wouldn't be getting back up. 5th knockdown of his career in only 19 fights and hatas got the nerve to question Juanmas chin, you have to question both of their chins if it's like that. Neway I'm glad he won so we can get this Mega Bout poppin. Juanma vs Marquez next up.
I completely agree with this. In tonights fight and the last couple of fights I've seen of Gamboa, I've noticed if he doesn't get the knock out in the early rounds - he damn near looks bored out of his mind in that ring. He acts like he can't wait for it to be over with. If this is how Gamboa comes with it when he fights JuanMa I fully expect that JuanMa will severly outclass him, and very possibly KHTFO! Solida was coming on pretty hard and never seemed to lose hope until after the headbutt. He seemed to lose the steam after that.
Side note: Joe Cortez needs to hang up his "fair but firm" gloves and retire for the betterment of my sanity. I just can't stand watching him ref.
However, because Cortez was so badly out of position, the sequence was never ruled a knockdown, nor was Gamboa ordered to back off and move to a neutral corner. In the spirit of protecting himself at all times, the Cuban continued to throw until instructed to stop doing so.
Lol PRboxingcotto is an idiot make up your mind is it nothing major or severly dirty tactics he pulled. It was dirty on both parts and I actually like Salido, he came to fight but Gamboa was just more athletic bad match up but he was still game until the end he got staggered pretty good. Gamboa was just going rounds with an experienced fighter something he needed. Gamboa still needs much improvement but he wasnt even knocked down those damn tecate signs are slippery even Salido fell once throwing the same hook it happens.
People comparing JuanMa and Gamboas chins but they forget that Mtagwa had JuanMa out on his feet and the knockdown Concepcion pulled was way worse and had him actually staggered momentarily. Gamboa still got suspect chin, but if Lopez comes in swinging like he did against Concepcion he would get countered and KTFO as some people been saying. Its a toss up lets see if they ever actually fight I know Gamboas game well see how much JuanMa wants it if he gets passed Marquez.
Salido doesn't have the boxing skills nor punch to beat gamboa but I don't think Gamboa has what it takes to beat Marquez or Juan M. Lopez. By the way Joe Cortez shouldn't be participating in mexican fighters bouts... He is just a disgrace!
Lots of things i dont like about Gamboa in this fight and overall
First of all he keeps putting his hands down and acting ****y.
Second of all he has back footing at times and keeps getting off balance, mostly with a wide left hook he keeps throwing
Third he keeps ducking and slipping punches with his hand down and it looks cool but an accurate puncher would catch him.
And he seems to lack disipline at times with i find every suprising
Training with Roger Mayweather or Floyd Sr. would straighten that out.
