Best upcoming bet: Robin Reid vs. Jeff Lacy?

I think the best bet out there in the near future (other than "Craig" winning the UK Big Brother at odds of 11-1 - see it at www.bet365.com) is Robin Reid against Jeff Lacy.

Why? Hell knows. I haven't even seen Lacy fight, or least I don't think I have. And the only time I saw Reid in action was when he was robbed shamefully when "losing" to Sven Ottke.

But all the signs are there. The bout will be more competitive than it should be... Reid is an Olympic medal winner with a decent chin and skills, and dropped a split decision to Calzaghe, so he's no slouch. He also beat Ottke convincingly in Ottke's own backyard... except he didn't, if you were one of the judges.

What's more, the signs are that Lacy is looking past Reid, believing a Calzaghe showdown is a formality. When interviewed recently Lacy's manager admitted to only seeing a single Reid fight on tape - a marked contrast to Robin, who studied Lacy and has a gameplan.

I dunno. Maybe Lacy will be too young, too hard-hitting, Reid too old, too worn. I'm certainly not saying that Reid will win. But in the year of the upset when I've won money on crazy bets like Hatton beating Zoo and Mike Tyson losing to a complete outsider, then out of the three of them putting £40 on Reid to win doesn't seem like such a ****** thing at all...

I doubted your bets seems foolish now...So it doesnt seem ****** at all.

I dont think Lacy is a very hard hitter at all. Although his work rate is what makes him so devastating. However, the past few fights I havent been impressed.

Here's Reid on Lacy's power (Boxing Monthly):

"He's not this devastating puncher, he punches hard but he's not all this and that. Lacy backed Williams into the ropes and, I'm not being funny, Williams just sat there with his arse on the ropes and let Lacy spread his legs and club away like Captain Caveman. Anyone can get power into their shots if they do that. If any big bloke walked into this gym right now he could go over to those [heavy] bags and make a big noise hitting them. So what?"

Very good analysis...But actions speak louder than words so I guess we will have to wait and see.

          hmm

No way is Lacy looking past Reid. Go look on **********. Anyway, Lacy knows he has nothing if he loses to Reid. Lacy is just too professional to look past anyone. He ain't no Bojado.

Also, Lacy's flexibility has been improved with the addition of plyometrics coach Don Hudson to his camp. That's going to make his punhes even meaner and his stamina better.

Reid also points out that no one has ever A. Tried to counter Lacy; and B. Back him up. Reid plans to do both.

The big thing is, Lacy has already held conferences about his bout with Calzaghe... that shows how seriously he's taking Reid. Never look past an Olympic medal winner with pedigree.
